Don't mess with Red Beard!
A bizarre story surfaced earlier in the month courtesy of the live high stakes cash games at Harrah's casino in New Orleans, where a man was caught on camera being punched in the face, then calmly beating the living daylights out of his attacker:
The man in the red shirt, identified as Jonathan Bloyen or more playfully "Red Beard", had won a massive $40,000 pot in a Pot Limit Omaha game at the venue a few nights prior to the incident, and the man attempting to assault him is allegedly a "goon" hired by the individual who lost that particular pot.
But as you can see from the footage, the supposed muscle man failed to make his clear weight advantage count and was trapped in a headlock almost immediately after the initial punch was thrown, before being flung across the room against a wall and embarassingly sent on his way.
Neither the loser of the hand in question nor the "hired muscle" have been named and shamed publicly, but it's rumoured they've now been banned from the casino.
Red Beard received no punishment for his valiant display of self defence, and simply re-stacked his chips ready for the next hand.
Blom among the biggest losers in May
Although he finished April as the internet's overall biggest winner at the online nosebleeds, normal service seems to have been resumed for Victor 'Isildur1' Blom in May.
The Swedish phenom netted himself a tidy $624,000 profit last month, but thanks to a dismal string of sessions on Full Tilt over the last week or so that winning streak has been cast into the shadows.
In May so far Blom's already dropped some $755,940 on Full Tilt - last Wednesday he incredibly lost over $900,000 in 24 hours - and it's only his solid performances at PokerStars (he's up $336,591 at the world's largest site) preventing him from topping the losers leaderboard at the month's mid-way point.
Elsewhere, Phil 'Polarizing' Ivey has finally put together a run of good form and currently boasts a combined $566,203 profit for the month, a tally currently bested by just one man in Ben 'Sauce1234' Sulsky who was the primary beneficiary of Blom's negative $900K day:
