Somerville defends poker
This week Twitch poker superstar Jason Somerville proved he is one of the great ambassadors for the game by making an impassioned case for legalising online poker in the US.
Appearing on CNBC's Power Lunch he debated with Rev. James Butler and argued that the current laws do not stop people playing poker, only stop them from playing on safe sites:
Hundreds of thousands of Americans are already playing online poker, but they're playing on unregulated, unsafe sites where they don't know that the games are square and they don't know if their money is safe.
Devilfish honoured by WPT and DTD
He may not have won a place in the Poker Hall of Fame (Yet) but the late, great, Dave 'The Devilfish' Ulliott is being honoured by a World Poker Tour event in his name at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
The Devilfish Cup begins on October 31 and has a £1 million guarantee with a £5,000 buy-in and £300 donation. All donations, plus 3% of the prize pool, will be collected and split between Marie Curie and a trust fund for Ulliott's daughter, Lucy, which she will receive on her 16th birthday.
Dusk Till Dawn director and friend of Ulliott Simon Trumper explained the reason for the event:
During his last few days, Rob (Yong) visited Dave and asked him how he wanted to be remembered. He asked us to hold a high buy-in event at the club, as Dave was always proud of his WPT Tunica win. We thought it fitting to replace this year's High Roller with the Devilfish Cup. World Poker Tour and WPT Foundation have been great and it is a pleasure to be working with them on this inaugural event.
