"I never have enough socks" - interview with Liv Boeree

We have a quick chat with EPT champion Liv Boeree to discuss politics, game shows and Daniel Negreanu kissing her mother.

PokerStrategy.com: Dude - was that Negreanu kissing your mum?

Liv Boeree:  Yup - it was only a split second smack on the lips when I went to take a photo of them but it was hilarious!

PokerStrategy.com: What was it like filming Heads-up with Stapes?

Liv Boeree: Freezing cold but very fun. The first two episodes were filmed on probably the coldest day of the year. Stapes is such a trooper filming in that silver jumpsuit in that weather. We had so many outtakes that were comedy gold - shame they couldn't have been left in!

PokerStrategy.com: You looked pretty fearless in that series, was there anything suggested in a production meeting that you refused to do?

Liv Boeree: Nope.

PokerStrategy.com:  I saw you calling out Stuart Wheeler (a UK politician who said women could not play poker) - did you get any sort of response from him?

Liv Boeree: Sadly, no - I'm guessing he's more of a full ring player...

PokerStrategy.com: Its the start of the new poker season - what are your plans for now until the WSOP next summer?

Liv Boeree: I'm definitely going to be at as many EPTs as I can. I just love the tour so much and everything that comes with it. It's so much fun and everything is run so smoothly.

PokerStrategy.com: We've seen you on Golden Balls and University Challenge (two popular UK game shows)- do you have plans to go on another game show?

Liv Boeree:  I would love to appear on some more game shows - I had success on most of the ones I've been on and absolutely love them. I would really love to appear on a show like the Krypton Factor, if they ever remake it.

PokerStrategy.com: You are probably one of the busiest sponsored pros out there, what would you say your ratio of playing vs media commitments is?

Liv Boeree: My media commitments are definitely a significant part of my time at any given tournament; that said, the media are usually very respectful of players' schedules and time at the tables.

PokerStrategy.com: What's the least glamorous thing about travelling the poker circuit?

Liv Boeree: Never having enough clean socks! I refuse to pay the exorbitant hotel laundry fees so often find myself washing socks in the bathtub.

PokerStrategy.com: What is the most recent thing you have learned about poker (from a book/training site/other player)?

Liv Boeree: Look for squeeze spots out of the big blind against multiple thinking players - they would expect you to peel with the majority of your hands since you're getting such a good price, so it polarises you a lot and tends to signify a very strong hand.

PokerStrategy.com:  If you could go back in time, what one lesson from poker training would have saved you the most time if you had learned it sooner?

Liv Boeree: Understanding where you are in your range compared to your opponents. It seems so obvious now but it took me a long time to get that nailed in my head!

PokerStrategy.com: What has surprised you the most about the game/industry since you first started?

Liv Boeree: Just HOW many people watch and/or know about poker, and how many people who I know don't ever play but love to watch it on TV.
