English Community Round-up

Welcome to the news round-up for the English Community. Each week, EagleStar88 will keep you in touch with some of the most important threads within the forum together with some of the fun posts, so that you never need to miss them.

PokerStrategy.comOur Community round-up is your weekly source for all that happens inside the PokerStrategy forums. If you missed something last week and you still want to be in touch with our community, here are some of the most important posts. This is just one of many community-related projects being set up.
Poker Blog of the week

We've gone all 'down under' this week. Without realising it, both the blog of the week and community interview feature our friends from the Oceanic region.

We may be spread out across many different time zones, but whilst Europe sleeps, some seriously good blogs get updated. waiboy's Confessions of a Dumb Poker Player - Now New and Improved! is just one of them. Check it out today.

Sample hand of the week

Another hand from the Fixed Limit (Bronze) sample hands board this week.
Community member rex99 asked for a second opinion on how best to play the flopped set.

0,1/0,2 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with TClub , THeart
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls.

Flop: (7,50 SB) 2Spade , TDiamond , JHeart (2 players)

Judge frzl suggests check/raise flop and cap it if possible. bet/3-bet turn and bet/call river would be view of maximising the opportunity.

PokerStrategy recently announced an existing new promotion connected to posting sample hands, check out the news area now for full details.

New community member of the week

A big friendly PokerStrategy welcome to all our new members this week, including amongst them, randomly chosen, new member kosherboa who joined us on the 28th of April.

We wish all new members every success and enjoyment with your poker and look forward to seeing you actively participating within the forums in due course.

Performances of the week

Our community amassed winnings of $15,158.19 this week.

Congratulations to all of our winners, which included:

  • itscrazy recorded their first tournament win, which just happened to be PokerStars Nightly $70k. Congrats on your win and the $12,348 prize;
  • Tournament wins also for alejandrosh, mafaz and snaker3;
  • mafaz so nearly qualified for the WSOP Main Event too, finishing 11th from a field of 698 in the Full Tilt Main Event Race Final, sadly only the top 8 won the coverted packages though, but very well played all the same, excellent attempt.

Sorry, we can't name everyone each week, but we'll try to pick up a few each time. Keep posting those wins in this thread, we've got to reach our $1,000,000 target and are currently up at $372,045.50.
spotlight on

As hinted earlier, our interviewee this week is a very popular community member from New Zealand and no expense has been spared in obtaining the interview. Whilst long haul from my home in England, I flew all the way..... up the stairs to my study and modern messaging technology did the rest.

Spotlight on community member delete461, interviewed by eaglestar88:

PokerStrategy: Hi delete461 welcome and thanks for agreeing to an interview for the community.Tell us a little bit about yourself.

delete461: Hello, my name is Aaron, I am 33 and I am a crop farmer from the far south of New Zealand. I am married with two children.

PokerStrategy: Is there a story behind the nickname, does it have any special meaning?

delete461: Nah I just took it off my keyboard lol

PokerStrategy: Ah I see lol nice one. How did you first start in poker?

delete461: I saw some WSOP on TV, saw an ad for PokerStars and thought I would give it a go. About a year ago, I downloaded the PokerStars software and started throwing playchips around.

PokerStrategy: How would you describe your poker style?

delete461: TAG

PokerStrategy: Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?

delete461: I play advanced SSS, mostly NL50 and NL100.

PokerStrategy: Do you ever play any live events, or are you mainly online based?

delete461: For now I am mostly online based, but I live near a major ski resort which is always full of rich tourists who think they can play poker. I plan to build my bankroll and my skills online then start grinding the local casino.

PokerStrategy: If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?

delete461: Moneytalks by AC/DC.

PokerStrategy: Cool. Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?

delete461: I liked Stu Ungar, he had a freakish talent for the game. If he was still alive I think he would wipe the floor with most of todays high profile players.

PokerStrategy: What has been your biggest success/achievement in poker so far?

delete461: Not going broke.

PokerStrategy: If you had the opportunity of playing a final table with a selection of people of your choice, who would be seated there with you?

delete461: Anybody who cant play poker.

PokerStrategy: What do you like most about PokerStrategy?

delete461: I like the wide variety of learning tools - other sites have some good strategy articles, some have good videos, some have coaching etc, but Pokerstrategy is the only site I know of that has everything.

PokerStrategy: Do you have a favourite blog that you are currently following?

delete461: At the moment its terrorblade, a fellow New Zealander who is doing very well for himself.

PokerStrategy: What advice would you give to our newer members just starting out in poker for the first time?

delete461: A lot of inexperienced players convince themselves the game is impossible to beat - the strategies dont work, there are too many shortstacks, they keep getting sucked out, even claiming the sites are rigged. You have to stay positive, every poker player has faced the same problems you are facing now. Keep reminding yourself that many pokerstrategy members before you have overcome these problems and gone on to make a lot of money.

PokerStrategy: Good point. Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?

delete461: Thanks to gerv for all the work he puts in to helping other SSS players.

PokerStrategy: Do you have any hobbies outside of poker?

delete461: I spend a lot of spare time with my family, but I get out to sea fishing when I can. I also have a large vegetable garden although it tends to get neglected until some halfwit knocks me out of a tournament with J5, then it gets frantically weeded and dug.

PokerStrategy: If money was no object, what would you buy?

delete461: A nice house and a Ferrari.

PokerStrategy: Well thank you for doing this interview delete461, you've given us all a great insight into the person behind the nickname and we're very grateful for you taking the time out to talk to us today. We wish you continued success with your poker and look forward to seeing you in the forum and on the green felt soon.

delete461: Thank you, its been a pleasure.
