PokerStrategy.com: Hi Markus, please tell our members a little bit about yourself.
mylady17: Hi, I'm 23 years old and study Geography in Gießen. Besides poker, sports is my biggest hobby. I can't do without my daily session of weight training, swimming or cycling.
PokerStrategy.com: Since when has poker been a major part of your life and how important is it for you?
mylady17: I've been playing poker since March 2007, but I didn't really feel like reading up on poker theory at first. That's the reason why I wasn't successful for a long time. Poker is more than just a hobby to me - I live off poker. Since I usually try not to spend too much money, my winnings on FL $1/$2 short-handed were already enough for a good life.
PokerStrategy.com: Can you tell us a bit about your poker career so far?
mylady17: I was donking around at the micro stakes forever. The SHC and a little bit of knowledge about odds and outs were enough at first - at least to keep me from going broke.
I reached a point where I wanted more and studied the theory, watched videos and started with u2u coaching sessions. I made it up to FL $2/$4 very quickly and reached $5/$10 and $10/$20 by the end of 2008. There, I suffered a 600 BB downswing, which pretty much destroyed my motivation and my mindset.
I cashed out almost all my winnings and started from scratch in No Limit. However, I didn't get to celebrate a big breakthrough there - I didn't even beat NL 100, although I was trying hard to improve. In mid-August 2010 I decided to go back to FL $1/$2.
PokerStrategy.com: Did you make a comeback?
mylady17: I'm playing FL $5/$10 short-handed again and it took me 90,000 hands to make it back up there. In my holidays, I would spend at least three hours a day studying the theory and analysing hands.
PokerStrategy.com: What can PokerStrategists expect from your new article?
mylady17: The article will help PokerStrategists analyse ranges, understand the dynamics of ranges and familiarise themselves with the essential aspects of hand reading.
PokerStrategy.com: Can you tell our community what you think is particularly important to be successful in poker?
mylady17: In my opinion, the right mindset is the most important factor - and I don't only mean tilt resistance. You also have to make sure that you never lose your motivation and always strive to improve. Many players who don't make it beyond the micro stakes simply don't have the right attitude towards the game.
