Barry Carter releases his 4th poker book on PKOs

PKO Poker Strategy, co-written with Dara O'Kearney, is out now and takes the uncertainty out of progressive knockout tournaments.

Today we congratulate our editor BarryCarter on his 4th poker book, PKO Poker Strategy, which hit the shelves today. 

Barry was already the co-author of the best selling Mental Game of Poker 1 & 2 with Jared Tendler, as well as last year's hit Poker Satellite Strategy with Dara O'Kearney. 

This time around Dara and Barry have turned their attention to another format that a lot of people play but not everybody understands - progressive knockout tournaments. 

The book came about in part because I noticed I had got better at PKOs by accident after working on the satellite book. Even though PKOs are very loose and satellites are very tight, we realised they were two sides of the same coin where you see the extremes of ICM. We spent the last year working really hard with solvers to try and create a user friendly system for getting better at PKOs.

Very little has been written about PKOs despite them being the fastest growing format in poker and likely to be the dominant MTT variant in most poker lobbies. 

In Poker Satellite Strategy we pretty much covered everything, there doesn't need to be a second satellite book written because there is always a correct answer and a wrong answer to the biggest spots. With PKOs we appreciate the format is ever evolving so rather than try to answer everything, we give a framework for getting better at them which we think will stand the test of time.
