Andy Wilson wins the WPT Rock'N'Roll Championship
'BowieEffect' defeated a stacked final table and 1,541 players to take down the $785,800 first prize in Hollywood.
UK pro Andy Wilson is the latest World Poker Tour champion after he oulasted 1,540 other players in the $3,500 WPT Rock'N'Roll Championship in Hollywood.
The popular player and streamer, who goes by the name 'BowieEffect' online, defeated a stacked final table that included 3-time WPT champion Brian Altman and in-form Chad Eveslage. He took down $785,800 after besting Joshua Kay heads-up.
He spoke about having his name etched on the Mike Sexton Cup after the victory:
“He’s one of the all-time greats of the game. It’s a shame he’s not with us anymore. But like there’s so many great names on that trophy,” said Wilson. “It’s one of the most prestigious tournaments you can win, a WPT title. It still feels pretty surreal, and the money is not a bad bonus either.”
Next up for the World Poker Tour is the much hyped World Championship in Las Vegas which gets underway today. The Main Event starts on December 12.
