WPT - Bay 101 Shooting Star

Despite a bad fiscal year the WPT events remain unchanged at the tables and with the players. The latest tournament was at the Bay 101 casino in San Jose, California

A special feature for this event is the bounty system. In this $10,000 buy-in tourney, a $5,000 bounty is placed on selected stars for whoever knocks them out. This entices a lot of players to duel the pros, forcing them to adjust their play to the more aggressive opponents.

Among the "Shooting Stars" to survive through day 1a and 1b are Ted Forrest (about 119,000 chips), J.C. Tran (116,000), Joe Hachem (52,000), Erick Lindgren (43,000), Barry Greenstein (39,000) and Mike Matusow (34,000). A total of 16 "Shooting Stars" made it through the first day of play

 

Josh Arieh, Gavin Griffin, Gus Hansen, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, David
Pham, Vanessa Rousso, Erik Seidel, Gavin Smith and Jerry Yang were some of the "Shooting Stars" that fell before day 2.

Florian Langmann also participated in the event, but unfortunately didn't make it past day 1. The beginning of the end was when he called an all-in from "Shooting Star" Chau Giang. Giang pushed his short stack with pocket queens and Florian called with K6. The flop brought a king, but the turn card was a queen. Florian was eliminated shortly thereafter.
