EPT San Remo – Jason Mercier wins
In the shortest final in the history of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour, the American Jason Macier claimed the first prize. He defeated Antony Lellouche heads-up. Dario Minieri came in third.
It was the biggest poker tournament to have ever taken place in Italy. 701 contestants paid the €5.000 buy-in, making up for a total prize pool of over €3.200.000. Mercier is taking home €869.000 for his first place victory. For the young mathematics-teacher from America, this translates to about $1.350.000 if you factor in the current exchange rate.
With the contestants at the table being eliminated at a breathtaking pace and Marcus Bower (USA), Dag Palovic (Slovakia), William Thorson (Sweden) and Gregory Genovese (Italy) taken out within a short period of time, Mercier called Erik Koskas' bluff all-in with pocket fives, improving his already impressive chip stack.
The local favourite among the Tifosi, the Italian Team-PokerStars-Pro Dario Minieri, had to go next. Although the Italian support made up for a great atmosphere, nothing could help Minieri. Just one hand after Koskas had to leave, Mercier sent Minieri to the audience.
Once they were heads up, both players kept up with the previous pace of the game. Lellouche went all-in on the second hand with pocket sevens and Mercier called with KQ. The flop brought a king, the turn and river were blanks giving Mercier the win at the EPT San Remo.
The next event in the EPT-season is the final in Monte Carlo.
