Erik Seidel wins his first WPT Title

After 15 cashes in the WPT, Erik Seidel finally claimed his first WPT Title at Foxwoods Poker Classic. In the Heads-Up he defeated Robert Richardson.

Enduring an almost 12-hour final table battle in which 229 hands were played, Seidel finally bested his 5 opponents for the WPT crown. During the previous days, he already controlled the tables and continually built up his stack. With 3.2 million chips he took a commanding lead to the final.

Ted Forrest and Internet Pro Adam Katz also had ambitions for the title, each holding about 2.3 million chips. But instead, Katz helped amateur Robert Richardson to a comeback at the table when he doubled Richardson up. Later on, it was again the amateur who finished off the short-stacked Katz in fifth place. Ted Forrest had to leave even earlier. It was also Richardson who eliminated him from the tournament. Frank Cieri dropped out as fourth.

After what felt like an eternity and one of the longest 3-handed phases in the history of the WPT, it was Andrew Barta who had to leave the table as second runner-up. Following this marathon, Seidel and Richardson seemed to have enough. Against all expectations it should become the shortest Heads-Up match in the history of the WPT. In the first hand, Seidel was able to wrap up the game.

Seidel raised with to 260.000 and Richardson called. The Flop came with . Seidel made a conti-bet of 300.000 and Richardson called again. The Turn showed the and Richardson pushed his remaining 1.275.000 All-In. Seidel called immediately, Richardson showed and was thus clearly behind. The River delivered another King and Seidel had won his first WPT Title.

With this, Erik Seidel's total tournament winnings increased to almost $9.000.000.
