WSOP Event #24: Darryll Fish Close To Lead After Day 1

The $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event saw 2,506 entries which generated a
prize pool of $3,420,690. Only 270 spots receive a share of that prize
pool, with the first place finisher walking away with $607,256.

Many notable names were seen at the tables, such as Bertrand "ElkY"
Grospellier, Tiffany Michelle, Kathy Liebert, Dragan Galic, T.J.
Cloutier, Hevad Khan, Neil Channing, Dennis Phillips, Jason Mercier and
mnay more. Another interesting name on the list of the entries was Tom
Dwan, but not the one you would expect it to be. Tom Dwan Sr, in other
words durrrr's dad,

This was also one of the rare events to which Phil Hellmuth almost
arrived at time. He came pretty early for his standards, only half an
hour into Level 4. Another refreshing change in this event were the
players' critics on the dealers, in this case compliments. One of the
players named Arron approached the floorman to praise the dealer at his
table, "He doesn't make a mistake, his motions are crisp..."

Jimmy Fricke looked like he was going to fight his way into the second
play day, but then his pocket kings ran into pocket jacks, which wasn't
bad until another jack came to the board. Fricke was sent to the rail,
but he was not the only one who left in such an unfortunate way.

Alain Roy left shortly before Fricke in a manner he probably never
expected. It was one of those genuine blind-on-blind confrontations
where the action comes down to the turn of the .
The small blind Emmet Hickey bet 10,000, Alain Roy moved all-in for
another 18,000 from the big blind and Hickey decided to call after the
clock was called. Roy turned over and Hickey revealed . The river came and Roy was out, while Hickey rose to 75,000 in chips.

Phil Hellmuth (pictured left) was unlucky enough to run into quads...but how exactly did he manage to get in with against an opponent's
remains a mistery. Either way, Hellmuth had nothing to complain about
this time.

He was drawing dead for most of the day and even though he
managed to survive somehow, his last hand was a desperate move and had
he won the hand, he would've become the classical villain from his
stories - a guy who makes an inexplicable call and gets away with it.

The players probably didn't expect to reach the money on the first play day, but the bubble was burst just before the play was concluded for the day. The remaining 270 players will return for Day 2 of the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event.
