WSOP Main Event Day 5 Preview: Nazgul Interviewed

The fourth play day of the WSOP Main Event has come to an end and Team PokerStrategy.com member Nazgul has successfully managed to qualify for next day. Let's see what he had to say about this achievement.

Main Event Day 5Day 4 of the WSOP Main Event came to an end earlier today, with Team PokerStrategy.com member Nazgul still in the race. He finished the play day in 56th place with a stack of 840,000 chips, well above the average, which should help him deal with Day 5 and hopefully qualify.

There are also other PokerStrategists present at the Main Event and they will be returning to the tables on Day 5 along with Nazgul. Amongst other players who qualified, we have Christian opti Heich (58th place with 830,000 chips), Marco abi0sex Mattes (302nd place with 236,000 chips), Felix lawdoc Osterland (356th place with 161,000 chips), Oliver baupilz Klatt (376th place with 127,000 chips).

NazgulNazgul (pictured left) will move on to Day 5 and we wanted to know how he feels after four intense days of poker. Team Manager RobbieV sat down with him for a few quick questions before the start of the new play day, so here is what he had to say:

RobbieV: Hello, Nazgul. First of all, congratulations, you are now in the money and you have quite a solid stack entering Day 5. How do you feel about this?
Nazgul: I'm don't feel ecstatic, but I'm really happy with today. I started the day a little under  average and had to fight hard and catch cards to get through the day. However, not only did I get trough the day, but I managed to get a stack way  above average. I'm in the top 50, which is absolutely the place I want to be at right now.

RobbieV: Will you prepare for the action on Day 5? If so, how?
Nazgul: I can't really do much to prepare for tomorrow, since it's late
now and the cards will be flying again at 12:00. I'm just going to
sleep early and wake up late. It will be a long day of play so I
need my sleep. Also I hope that I won't feel sick tomorrow, but
strangely enough, long live back-to-back tournament days for the last 1.5 months really
drained me.

RobbieV: How was the action after four full days of poker?
Nazgul: The action today was good. I had a soft table and I got paid off on all
my major hands except one. I got the most value out of all my hands and
there's only one spot where I could have done better I think. I had
aces at one point when my opponent, at least he said so, had a strong
pair, which he managed to fold against my pref-lop push. But actually
there was not a whole lot else I could do there, because every play I
made, that wasn't folding, would look like aces.

RobbieV: What are your expectations at this point? How far do you think you will make it?
Nazgul: As always with expectations... In poker it's best not to have any
expectations. It is really different from tennis, for example. If you
have a big edge in tennis you can expect to win, but in poker, no
matter how big your edge is, you can still lose. There is only one thing I
can do, and will do, and that is to play the best poker I'm capable
of. It's up to the dealer's tricks to determine where I will end up.
Of course I have high hopes for tomorrow and I really hope I can make
it through day 5 and bring at least an average stack onto day 6 😉

RobbieV: Were there any notable players that you faced in Day 4?
Nazgul: I really had no good, known or famous players at my table at all.
Yesterday at day 4, I had Dan Harrington directly to my left. He was
actually a lot better than I expected. Beforehand, I imagined him to be
a really tight player, but he was actually loose and active, picking
good spots, making good calls and value bets. Today there was no one
known or good though.

RobbieV: Ok, Nazgul, thanks for your time and good luck tomorrow!
Nazgul: Thank you!
