EPT London breaks UK attendance record

With 730 players signing up, the European Poker Tour (EPT) London Main Event has broken the record for being the largest poker tournament in the United Kingdom.

As the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour (EPT) London Main Event closes in on naming its 2009 champion, it has been officially revealed that the tournament has broken the record for the biggest poker tournament to ever be held in the United Kingdom.

A total of 730 players signed up for this year's tournament. This number exceeds 2008's attendance by more than 100 players, and is also more than the 608 players who turned up for the WSOPE Main Event a week earlier.

Joining in on the record field were a large number of celebrities and poker superstars. They included Team PokerStars Pros and World Champions Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker and Peter Eastgate. Tennis legend Boris Becker and former top footballer Teddy Sheringham were also present in this record breaking event.

With such a large number of players signing up, the prize pool also did not disappoint with £3,540,500 up for grabs for the 104 players who make the cash. A 6th place finish will guarantee a six digit pay-off, and the champion takes home a staggering £850,000 prize.
