WSOPE Event #2: Lisandro Wins a Bracelet in Omaha

WSOP 2009 Player of the Year and Stud expert Jeffrey Lisandro picked up his fifth WSOP bracelet and the first outside a Stud event. He also picked up £159,514 after defeating Joe Serock heads-up.

In the World Series of Poker 2009, Jeff Lisandro picked up an amazing three bracelet and all of them in Stud events to be crowned as the Player of the Year and cementing his reputation as a Stud expert. He had also picked up another Stud bracelet before that in 2007.

In the WSOP this year, Lisandro fired blanks in Las Vegas but made amends in London after picking up his first non-Stud bracelet by winning the £5,250 Pot Limit Omaha Event #2. Team PokerStrategy.com member Nazgul also played in this event but busted out on Day 1.

Lisandro's experience wins the day

Besides Lisandro, Jeff Madsen was another former WSOP Player of the Year on this final table, Madsen won the title in 2006. The other players on the final table included UK pro Willie Tann, Swedish legend Chris Bjorin and Full Tilt red pro John Racener. Tann was eliminated in third place and that set the stage for a young vs old battle for the title, between Lisandro and Joe Serock.

Serock held a over 2.5 to 1 lead at the start but Lisandro quickly turned it around and grabbed the lead. The final hand was a preflop all in with Lisandro's going up against Serock's . The board came , missing Serock completely and giving Lisandro his fifth WSOP bracelet.

Nazgul and Thorsten77 set to start Event #3

Team PokerStrategy.com members Thorsten77 and Nazgul will finally join the action in Event #3 of the WSOPE on Sunday as they start on Day 1C. So far almost 400 players have paid the £1,075 buy-in to take part in this No Limit Hold'em event. Around 200 more are expected on the last opening day.

On Day 1B, Canadian Wesley Pantling surged to the chip lead while Andrew "luckychewy" Lichtenberger is in third. Only 27 player survived the relatively quick structure to join the 28 survivors from day 1A. The big names that were eliminated on Day 1B included Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Liv Boeree, Huck Seed, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey.
