Today's Daily Rewind details Germany's continued success on the world poker scene, a new addition to the Macau Big Game and a warning to former Full Tilt players.
Germany Defeat the World
Following on from Pius Heinz' monumental victory in the WSOP Main Event, an all-star team from Germany stole the show at the IFP Nations Cup in London yesterday.
The International Federation of Poker's Nations Cup was the first of its kind and featured 12 teams from around the world including France, Ireland, the U.K. and U.S.
It took just two days for Tobias Reinkemeier, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Moritz Kranich, Hans Martin Vogl and Sandra Naujoks, to emerge victorious ahead of Brazil and France.
The tournament used a duplicate poker format, which dealt the same hands to each table and awarded points for each player's performance during the hands, was designed to minimise luck.
The surprise package of the tournament was Team Zynga. The collection of Zynga community members took 4th place ahead of pre-tournament favourites the U.S. and U.K.
Many of the players will now go on to compete in the IFP World Championship which is set to offer a top prize of $250,000.
Macau Big Game to get Bigger
A regular in the now legendary Macau Big Game has hinted that the action may take a dramatic upswing in the next with the introduction of a new player.
Tom Hall, who has firsthand experience of the game, announced in a 2+2 post that Cirque du Soleil impresario and high stakes poker fanatic Guy Laliberté, will be joining the game later this week.
In his words, "things could be set to go really mental", as the billionaire will not be afraid to tussle with the local businessmen or pros at the table.
While the news of Guy's presence in the game will have whetted the appetites of the high stakes railbirds, the further announcement of the game possibly moving to the online arena early next year will have had them practically salivating.
Although the details are vague, it seems that $1 million+ pots could become commonplace on the web at some point next year.
Phishing for Fish
It’s only been a few days since the Full Tilt deal with the Tapie Group was finalised and the scammers have already come out in force.
Details of the latest phishing scam came courtesy of 2+2 poster "SGT RJ" who decided to warn unsuspecting members of the community never give out their username or password.
The email scam tells the recipient that they have received a new private message on what appears to be Full Tilt Poker. After navigating to the page provided the only action the person is allowed perform is enter their login details and password.
No other links on the page work which is a sure sign that the page is simply a way of obtaining the personal details of players at Full Tilt.
The thread has been left open and players are being encouraged to post details of any similar scams they encounter. Indeed, with many people anxious to access their Full Tilt accounts again the number of potential scams could increase dramatically in the next few months, so it pays to be vigilant.
High Stakes Corner
A flurry of high stakes activity has gripped the online world in the last 24 hours with the likes of Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies and "verve.oasis" banking the most money.
Topping the cash charts with $170,006 in profit was the Finnish pro Sahamies, with “verve.oasis” winning $90,836 over the course of 1,950 hands.
At the other end of the spectrum, "!P0krparty¡" had a disastrous day dropping $154,601, a shade more than "GARFIELD25" who lost $132,638.
