Baguley victorious at UKIPT Nottingham

The PokerStars UKIPT Nottingham attracted a record-breaking crowd once again this year and when all was said and done there was an unlikely name clutching the winner's cheque.

Robert Baguley, a 60-year-old retired landlord from Leicestershire, proved that every dog has his day after negotiating through a field of 1,625 players to snare the title and £210,400 prize money.

Baguley overcame final table favourite and monster chip leader Iqbal Ahmed after a short heads-up battle, and was said to be "fuzzy headed" after winning.

Eastgate's road to glory

WPT Magazine this week published a fascinating interview with 2008 WSOP Champion Peter Eastgate, wherein the icy Dane breaks down some hand-by-hand analysis of his infamous final table.

It's a great insight into the method behind Eastgate's victory and what he was thinking at the time.

Amarillo Slim in bad shape

News reaches us today that controversial poker champion Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston is being treated in a Texas hospice and is unlikely to make it through the night.

The 83-year-old four time WSOP bracelet-winner is one of the most well-known poker players of his generation and one of the most colourful characters to ever grace the game.

High stakes corner

The pace of this week's high stakes games showed no signs of slowing yesterday, with rumoured Guy Laliberte account "Zypherin" creating a flurry of action at PokerStars.

However it was Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies who was yesterday's man in form, banking a tidy $324,476 for his day's play according to HighStakesDB.

It was a painful day for players named Ben, with messrs "Sauce123" Sulsky and "Ben86" Tollerene dropping $200,000 between them.
