One Drop One Day Away

Forget all the buy-ins, bracelets and banknotes that have passed through the Rio this summer because tomorrow’s event tops them all.

After months of anticipation the $1 million One Drop event has reached a capacity 48 players just in time for the immortal “shuffle up and deal” to be announced.

A tweet to the community by One Drop founder Guy Laliberte confirmed the registration process had closed, meaning the first place prize will be well over $16 million.

While many of the poker world’s biggest names have confirmed their attendance, such as Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Jens jenskyllonen Kyllonen, many others have missed out.

A disappointed Phil Galfond took to Twitter to inform people of his absence:

The opportunity to play the biggest buy-in tournament in the world hasn’t completely passed though, as a final $25,000 satellite will take place with one seat guaranteed.

Justin Bonomo has already pledged to give it one last shot, as have a selection of other pros.

The Micros have been holding back their Vegas vacation as long as possible, but with the $1 million One Drop and Main Event looming large they’ve decided to head for the Rio.

In a mini instalment of their virtual comic strip the producers John Wray and Jay Rosenkrantz have loaded up their ride, donned their shades and put the pedal to the metal all the way to the WSOP.

However, the characters’ creators won’t be heading to Sin City alone. Indeed, without their team of hapless poker punks John and Jay would be nothing which is why Team MicroCoco will be close behind them.

Can they take down a bracelet? Only time will tell.

Men and the Ladies’ Championship go together like Jamie Gold and bluffing: they don’t work.

However, every year, despite the arguments for and against, a handful of men exercise their right to freedom of entry and take part in the event.

While the number of masculine faces trying to outlast a field full of females is less than previous years, one male in particular has made his presence known.

After anteing up his $1,000, Brandon Uhl made the mistake of sitting down at Vicky Coren’s table and telling her not to get her “panties in a twist”.

Anyone that knows Vicky, either from her exploits at the poker table or as one of the UK’s most recognisable journalists and broadcasters, will know that engaging in a verbal argument with her is not the wisest idea.

The details of Vicky’s encounter are outlined in her latest blog entry which is entitled: Pick on Someone Your Own Size.

According to Vicky, Uhl “doesn’t have the balls of those hookers in the Rio bar” and after condescendingly arguing with her during the tournament her parting assessment of him was that he is “an arsehole”.

High Stakes Corner

The online poker world might have seen a drop in high stakes action over the past few weeks but it looks as though things are about to hot up in Vegas.

While the details of nosebleed live games are often kept to a minimum, information has begun to filter through that a $2,000/$4,000 cash game with an $8,000 straddle has formed at the Aria.

According to reports the minimum buy-in is $1 million and already the likes of Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and John Juanda have suggested they are playing.
