Ferguson's close to DOJ settlement

Chris Ferguson has reached a tentative settlement with the DOJ according to a recent court document.

Having initially faced a $42 million claim from the DOJ, Ferguson has now put forward a deal which, according to reports, is likely to be accepted by Judge Kimba H. Wood.

Contained within the settlement are a number of paragraphs pertaining to Ferguson's refusal to admit any wrongdoing, despite agreeing to settle with the DOJ.

Additionally, it states that Ferguson will pay back the contents of the "Ferguson account" (a figure which isn't stated) as well as an additional $2,350,000.

Moreover, Ferguson will not be allowed to work or derive income from any poker company that operates in an unauthorised capacity in the US.

While the settlement will end the civil case against him, some forum posters, such as "Scott Tom", believe Ferguson could still "end up in prison or at the very least with multiple felony convictions".

PokerStrategy team at iGaming North

iGaming North America's annual conference started yesterday and two members of PokerStrategy.com, MattKaufman and TobiasBlock, were in attendance.

The Microgaming Network has taken steps to reinvigorate its bad beat jackpot by implementing an innovative new system.

Using the network's "patent-pending" software, site's such as Unibet, Ladbrokes and 24hPoker will now run and "opt-in/opt-out" system across all their tables.

Before the start of each hand a player can choose to pay an extra $0.02 (regardless of the stakes they're playing) and enter into the BBJ. In addition to this, the qualifying requirements for the prize have been lowered so that if any four of a kind (using two hole cards) is beaten, you'll win.

By adopting this system network operators believe it will cause the jackpot to be hit more often as well as expand its reach. Indeed, Steven Cutler, Unibet's Head of Poker, believes the new system will "significantly enhance" their platform and "increase player satisfaction".

BOOM ready to explode

The much anticipated online poker documentary, BOOM, is just weeks away from completion according to a recent blog post by Jay Rosenkrantz.

The co-producer explained that "the movie will be picture locked by March 1", meaning the editing process will be complete and, pending some last minute tweaks, it will be ready.

In addition to completing their film, the creators will be hosting it on their new website which will be launching in mid-March.

In a final bid to garner support for the movie, Rosenkrantz plans to enter it into various film festivals and take it on a theatrical tour around poker hotspots in the US and Canada.
