Pros fail to shine in Galway

UKIPT Galway's Main Event got underway yesterday and by the time the registration had closed a total of 231 players had anted-up €1,100.
Despite being somewhat less popular than expected, Day 1A saw a number of pros, including Gus Hansen and Liv Boeree, take to the felt in bid for a slice of the €1,000,000 prizepool.
As the Guinness flowed and betting became more liberal, neither Liv nor Gus could stand the pace and eventually fell before the end of the session.
In contrast, a late surge by Alan Gold gifted the British qualifier with 272,700 chips and the overall lead ahead of Miklos Soproni (175,900) and 72 other survivors.
Day 1B kicked off earlier and amongst the masses vying for the title were Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot and Jake Cody. At the time of writing the event is heading for an overlay of around €200,000.
Brazilian star to visit Spain

EPT Barcelona will receive a dose of star power later this month when Ronaldo (the one that became fat) joins the action.
Taking part in a special promotion for PokerStars' Spanish players, the Brazilian footballer will take part in a €5,000 Sit & Go during the opening event of EPT Season 10.
Running alongside EPT Barcelona's main fiesta, the exhibition match will give two Spanish qualifiers a seat in Ronaldo's game which will also include a selection of PokerStars pros.
Beyond the one table tournament, Ronaldo is expected to line up for the EPT's €5,300 Main Event which kicks off on September 1 and 7.
EPT Barcelona will run from August 26 to September 7 and feature a host of side events, including a €10,300 Heads-Up Championship and the €1,100 Estrellas Main Event.
Eurovegas and Bikinis

Despite opposition to Sheldon Adelson's Eurovegas project, Madrid's former president, Esperanza Aguirre, has implied that the casino complex could be as important to Spain as bikinis.
Citing the need for a tourist boom in a recent newspaper article, Aguirre stated that "bikinis only brought positive effects" and Eurovegas could do the same.
While many senior figures are morally opposed to Adelson's Eurovegas, Aguirre argued that adults should have a free choice and the country needs the kind of economic boost the project could bring.

A busy day at the virtual felt allowed two players to bank more than $1,000,000 between them.
Over the course of 1,550 hands "Trueteller" was able to top the daily leaderboard with a $630,961 haul.
That figure was more than enough to put him ahead of "proudlikeagoat" who banked an equally impressive $415,133.
Feeling the force of "Trueteller" and "proudlikeagoat" in the last 24 hours was a trio of pros that included: "samrostan", "MalACEsia" and "punting-peddler".
Of the three losers it was "samrostan" who topped the leaderboard with a deficit of $313,941, whilst "MalACEsia" and "punting-peddler" lost $285,690 and $279,497 respectively.
