Today we recap yesterday's UKIPT action, look forward to PokerStars' future in the US and raise a smile with a Russian amateur.

The opening event of EPT London 2013 got underway yesterday and when the registration desks had closed a total of 246 grinders had lined up for Day 1A of UKIPT's Main Event.

Sitting down inside the lavish surroundings of Covent Garden's Grand Connaught Rooms, a healthy mixture of pros and qualifiers anted up £1,000+£100 for a shot at the £500,000 guaranteed prizepool.

However, by the time the session was brought to a close just 70 players were left fighting for the title, including Richard "The Claimer" Trigg.

The British pro enjoyed a profitable day at the felt and when things came to a close he'd managed to scoop 226,100 chips and the overall lead.

Also making an appearance on Day 1A and making it through the masses was a strong contingent of Brits that included Toby Lewis (70,700), Barny Boatman (36,600) and Vicky Coren (25,000).

Today's second session is expected to break yesterday's tally and has welcomed the likes of Liv Boeree and Daniel Negreanu to the felt.

According to recent reports PokerStars is planning to spend $10 million on a new poker room inside Atlantic City's Resorts Casino.

In much the same way the online site was prepared to invest a large sum of money in the Atlantic Club Casino, PokerStars will set up camp in Resorts' complex if New Jersey governors give them the go ahead.

Talking to Press of Atlantic City, online gaming lobbyist William J. Pascrell III said that PokerStars is ready to build a new poker room "as soon as the licence is in hand."

While legal tape continues to hamper PokerStars' re-entry back into the US market, it does seem that the company isn't willing to give up the fight just yet.

Police brutality at casino

When you leave a casino you don't usually expect to be rushed by a gang of police officers, but that's exactly what happened to this unfortunate gambler in Atlantic City.

David Connor Castellani from New Jersey was underage at the Tropicana Casino. He is now suing the police for alleged unwarranted brutality for the beating he received after getting thrown out, which you can see below. Be warned, however, it is quite a graphic video:

'SallyWoo' left yesterday's high stakes action with the largest profit after just 590 hands. Having sat down with some of the top players in the world, the online pro was able to bank $197,466 and finish atop of the daily leaderboard ahead of PokerStrategist Benny ' psychobenny' Spindler ($85,032).

At the other end of the profit spectrum it was a tough day for 'samrostan' as they rose to the top of the loss chart after falling to a $132,078 defeat over the course of 848 hands.
