Jungleman calls out durrrr over $300k debt

Frustrated with the lack of durrrr challenge action, Cates threatens to reveal secrets about Dwan's personal life.

It's been just under a year since we last saw any action in the famous durrrr challenge between Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates, and Dwan's unwillingness to finish the duel, or even negotiate a deal, has pushed Jungleman to go public with his frustrations.

"I would love to continue the challenge, I think Tom is drawing stone dead versus me", Cates told flushdraw.net in a recent interview.

"But I think he can't own up to the fact that he's unable to complete it."

Since the battle first began in 2010, the pair have played just over 20,000 of the allotted 50,000 hands, the vast majority of which took place before the events of Black Friday in 2011.

Cates was up roughly $1.25m on Dwan before Black Friday, and added a further $200,000 over the course of just 1,485 hands in the pair's only real confrontation since.

As things stand, Cates is up $1.5m, but is desperate to finish the challenge, as Dwan promised to cough up $1.5m to anyone who could beat him.

"He is extremely frustrating, it's outrageous"

In an attempt to speed the challenge up, Dwan agreed to pay Cates an additional $40,000 for every two months that went by without any action.

Cates alleges that Dwan now owes him another $300,000 in penalties as a result, but that he hasn't been paid a penny.

"He failed to uphold any promises he made to me", Cates told PokerListings in an interview. "He is extremely frustrating, it's outrageous."

"I feel like he won't complete it", Cates continued. "For now I won't divulge his personal situation. But I'm not thrilled with anything I hear about him, his friend says he won't do business with him anymore because he's totally insane."

Quite what Cates means by Dwan's "personal situation" remains unclear, but what has been made abundantly clear, is that we will be finding out soon enough if Dwan continues to frustrate his opponent.
