$11k Spin & Go prop bet proves their profitability

Contrary to suggestions they are all luck, one grinder has shown over a big sample that Spin & Go can be beaten.

Variable prize pool SNGs like Spin & Go have really divided the poker world. Recreational players love them and the format has proved very popular in a short space of time. However, serious SNG grinders have questioned whether they are a profitable long term format because of the random prize pool and 5% rake.

One PokerStars player, ‘Bighusla’, has helped to show that they can be a profitable format. Last month he placed a bet on 2+2 that he could play over 5,000 $30 Spin & Go tournaments and have a chip expected value (cEV) of 8.5%.

He must have put some real effort into his calculations, because he ended the prop bet after 5,054 games with a cEV of 8.8% and real money winnings of just under $11,000.

This was before loyalty bonuses and the money from the prop bet. The amount he booked for the bet is not known, but he got three to one odds.

His biggest single multiplier at the $30 level was $750, which is a x25 multiplier. He didn't have that many large multipliers throughout his bet. The largest potential prize pool at that level is $90,000.

The prop bet took place a few weeks before the $60 buy-in was introduced to Spin & Go, and ‘Bighusla’ says that he might attempt another similar prop bet for that buy-in level soon.

He has now pledged to give the winnings from the prop bet to charity, including donating 20 laptops to children in need in Brooklyn.
