The $892,433 poker birthday present

We round-up some stories you may have missed including a new $10 million man and very optimistic news for the new partypoker LIVE tour.

The best birthday ever?

Daniel Weinman wins a WPT on his birthday

We've all had relatives buy us poker chips for our birthday (like we never thought to buy them ourselves) but this is hard to beat as poker birthday gifts go.

Daniel Weinman celebrated his 29th birthday by winning the WPT Borgata Winter Open last week.

He overcame a massive field of 1,312 players in the $3,500 Main Event to win the $892,433 first prize.

“I turned 29 today, so this is a pretty awesome birthday present,” he commentated after the win. “My girlfriend flew in last minute. You couldn’t have scripted it any better.”

Duthie joins partypoker LIVE

If you were looking forward to the recently announced new tour from partypoker, you have even more reason to get excited.

John Duthie has just been unveiled as the President of the tour in a five year contract.

Duthie is the founder of the European Poker Tour (Now the PokerStars Championship) which is arguably the most advanced and best organised series in live poker, so this is a great omen for partypoker LIVE. He commented after his appointment:

I have been impressed with the progress of partypoker and in particular the number of trusted, experienced and well-respected individuals and organisations that have chosen to put their support behind the partypoker brand. I believe there is a gap in the market for an operator whose primary focus is poker and who will listen to, and work with, the poker community as this was something that was absolutely key to the growth and success of the EPT. I still love the game just as much as the first time I saw my first flop and I believe this passion will help partypoker LIVE become the largest and most fun poker tour in the world. I plan to enjoy myself immensely working with and meeting old friends.

A second $10 million man

When it comes to online poker tournament milestones it is hard to look past Chris Moorman, who holds many of the big records.

However, one man to watch clearly has to be Bryan Paris, who according to the PocketFives Rankings has become only the 2nd player (After Moorman) to reach $10 million in online MTT cashes.

Known as 'bparis' online he also boasts five online MTT Triple Crowns, two Super Tuesday titles and his biggest cash was for $111,792.

Can Coach Doug save humanity?

How did the humans lose to Libratus? We are not sure how it was possible when they had Coach Doug in their corner:
