Christoph Vogelsang wins Super High Roller Bowl

Vogelsang lands $6 million as he follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner of the same event, countryman Rainer Kempe.

Christoph Vogelsang

Christoph Vogelsang became the second German in as many years to win the Super High Roller Bowl last night at the Aria Casino, Las Vegas. Vogelsang follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner of the same event, countryman Rainer Kempe.

His hard-fought victory, the player’s first live win, earned him $6m and came after a marathon heads up session, lasting almost five hours against American pro Jake Schindler. The only other competitor left at the start of the final day’s play was Stefan Schillhabel, also German, who began way behind the final two and who, along with other competing German players, had an eight-way last-the-longest bet for $2,000.

It was bet that hit Schillhabel hard as he busted at the expense of his countryman’s all-in leaving the last pair standing to play out a five hour heads up that only came to an end when Vogelsang, with 30 seconds left to make his play, called his opponent’s weak 6.2 million all-in on the river to take home the $6m winnings. This was his biggest cash since his third place finish in the same event three years ago in its inaugural year when he walked away with $4.4m. Vogelsang now finds himself second on the all-time money list in Germany behind Fedor Holz, who has also enjoyed a good week at the Aria.
