Vanessa Selbst retires from poker

The legendary player has parted ways with PokerStars and is now pursuing a career as a hedge fund manager.





One of the most iconic players and ambassadors of the modern era is calling time as a professional poker player. 

Vanessa Selbst has announced that not only is she parting ways with her long time sponsor PokerStars, she will also be leaving poker itself:

In a lengthy Facebook post she revealed that she is looking for a new challenge in the form of a managing a hedge fund, the excitement for which she likened to the early days of poker for her. 

Selbst said that Black Friday, heavy travel and the increased level of competition made her call time on her 12 year career, and now she puts poker on the back burner as a fun hobby. 

In those 12 years she became one of the most feared players on both the live and virtual felt. Among her accolades she has almost $12 million in live earnings, three WSOP bracelets, two NAPT titles, a Partouche Poker Tour Main Event win and a PCA Super High Roller win. She is also the all time women's money leader with almost double the winnings of her nearest rival (Kathy Liebert).
