The biggest sports bet in history was won last weekend
A mattress store owner who has a history of backing poker players won $75 million in a single World Series of Baseball bet on Saturday.
Over the weekend the largest sports betting wager in history was won after the Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the Major League Baseball championship event.
Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale placed a $10 million bet on his beloved Astros to win $75 million. This is reported to be the biggest single win in the history of sportsbetting. He placed a $3 million bet at Caesars, $1 million at WynnBet, $2 million at BetMGM, $2 million at Barstool, $1 million at Unibet and $1 million at Betfred. He also got to throw out the first pitch during the event.

Mattress Mack is reported to be a billionaire and often used bets like this to offset promotions for his chain of mattress stores. Indeed anyone who bought a $3,000+ mattress from him during the promotional period will get there money back now that the Astros have won.
There is a poker connection too. Mattress Mack was also the backer for a group of players from Houston during the 2022 World Series of Poker.
