The American defeated one of the toughest final tables in poker history to take down the $100,000 Triton Main Event in Cyprus.

One of the winningest players in the game has once again etched his name on a major trophy. Jason Koon has just won the $100,000 Triton Poker Main Event in Cyprus for $2,451,082.

That is his 7th Triton Poker title and his 2nd title of the trip in Cyprus, having also won the $20,000 event at the start of the festival.

He defeated a field of 101 players and one of the most stacked final tables ever assembled. Viascheslav Buldygin, Stephen Chidwick, Mike Watson, Sean Winter, Dan Smith, Henrik Hecklen, Steve O'Dwyer, and heads-up opponent Sam Greenwood all could not get the better of him.

Koon was emotional after the win, which was in no small part due to the fact that this win has likely clinched the Ivan Leow Player of the Year title for him after he overtook Stephen Chidwick in the race. There are still some events to go but it looks like he has a big enough lead to seal that title:

“I was here a little under a year ago when we lost Ivan,” Koon said. “Ivan was a good friend of mine. And walking through these halls every day I feel a little bit emotional about that. Just the title of Player of the Year, it gets me emotional. I miss the guy.”
