The Big One for One Drop returns as a WPT event
The $1 million buy-in tournament is back at a new venue as part of a new tour.
The biggest buy-in event in World Series of Poker history is returning this year as a World Poker Tour event.
Taking place during the WPT World Championship, the Big One for One Drop will be at the Wynn Las Vegas between December 18-20.
The buy-in is $1 million, 6% of which will go to the One Drop Foundation to continue its mission to give people in challenging communities clean drinking water.
“The Big One for One Drop is such an iconic tournament in the world of poker. We are honored to put on this incredible event in conjunction with the One Drop Foundation and Wynn Las Vegas,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “The $1 million buy-in is a testament to the heights this industry can reach and the continuous evolution of the World Poker Tour.
The biggest Super High Roller in poker
There have been three versions of the $1 million buy-in event and a fourth €1 million buy-in tournament that was only open to (rich) amateur players. The biggest one was the first one when Antonio Esfandiari defeated a field of 48 to take down $18,346,673. There have also been $100,000 versions of the event.
This is the first time that a World Series of Poker bracelet event has been rebranded as a World Poker Tour event. It will be interesting to see if there is a player cap on this tournament like in previous years because the appetite for nosebleed stakes MTTs is at a high right now.
The only event that has beaten it in terms of scale is the £1 million buy-in Triton Million from 2019.
