APT Incheon nears final table in record breaking Main Event

South Korean record is broken as players from all over the world bid to win the $350,000 top prize in Incheon.

The record-breaking Asian Poker Tour in Incheon, South Korea neared its climax today as Day 3 ended with just 48 hopefuls cashing a $349,885 top prize. With the biggest APT Main Event field ever seen in South Korea, players from the United States, China, Japan and India all featured in the top ten at the close of play.

With a record attendance of 1,281 entries including 206 online entries and 81 Day 2 registrations, the Asian Poker Tour Main Event in Incheon has reached the end of its third day. Leading the field into the final two days is the Indian player Rishi Mehra, with players from the Philippines, the United States, Japan and China all close behind him.

Paradise City Casino in Incheon, South Korea has been the place to be all week, with the action in several of the 96 APT events taking place this month red hot. Of the Main Event field, 191 players banked profit and while everyone who reaches the final nine will be guaranteed to win over $25,000, all the 48 players who ended Day 3 with chips are targeting that top prize of just under $350,000 and a $10,000 APT Championship Main Event seat.

High Rollers Rise and Fall

This week’s APT Main Event in South Korea more than doubled its guarantee in breaking the record attendance for a live poker tournament in the country. After seven hours of intense action, the final 191 players were reduced to 48 survivors on a frantic Day 3 that saw Rishi Mehra (2,990,000) crack Junjie He’s pocket aces with ace-king of hearts, two hearts coming on the flop and another on the turn to complete the nut flush for the leader at the end of play.

Amid the madness of 143 eliminations at the rate of one every three minutes of action, some fascinating stories emerged, with the last female survivor, Japan’s Ayaka Honke, (1,905,000), the Asian poker tournament director and organizer Lloyd Fontillas (2,345,000) and Daniel Lee (1,955,000) all inside the top 10.

Others weren’t so fortunate, with the popular Thai high roller and former APT Main Event champion Punnat Punsri, WSOP bracelet winner Joseph Cheong and Hong Kong player Jason Chau all unable to survive the day.

Play resumes tomorrow at 11:15am local time and will continue until nine players remain in the APT Incheon Main Event.
