Kayhan Mokri wins second Triton Poker title for career high score of $3.83m

The Norwegian star wins his biggest ever tournament prize after capturing a second Triton title in Jeju, South Korea.

Poker pro Kayhan Mokri has emerged as a real talent in the past few years and confirmed that status as entirely justified with yet another major title in Jeju on the Triton Poker Series tour.

Mokri, who is now the second most successful tournament player from Norway behind the 2022 WSOP Main Event winner Espen Jørstad, banked an incredible $3.83 million after doing a deal with second-placed former soccer star Mario Mosböck, who also earned the biggest payday of his career to date.

There were 114 entries in the $150,000-entry event, a startling enough statistic on its own. Mosböck, who became a Triton Poker ambassador recently, won the biggest prize of his second career, having transitioned from the football field to the poker felt several years ago.

When the final table begun, Mokri led from the Azerbaijani player Javid Ismayilo, with Mosböck a very distant seventh of nine players. One of them was the record-holding Triton Poker legend, Jason Koon, but the American poker legend failed to add to his record-breaking tally of 12 Triton titles, busting in fifth place for an almost disappointing result of $1,222,000.

The day belonged to Mokri, but heads-up, it was perhaps Mosböck who got the better end of the deal. With Mokri holding 35 big blinds and Mosböck down to just 11, the deal saw both men guarantee themselves over $3m, with just $130,000 left over to play for. Mokri’s lead was such that Mosböck needed a quick double-up and he did get one but with the chips committed again, Mokri flopped trips with the inferior hand to claim the crown.

“It was an insane final table, a lot of all-ins,” Mokri told Triton after the event. “It's probably the most insane poker I've played ever in my life for this sum. I got the better end today; I think in nine hands I doubled up five times and became the chip leader... I’m grateful. At this stage, you've just got to get some good hands and make them hold up.”

Mokri certainly did that, and at a final table where both he and his final opponent both won the biggest scores of their poker career to date, no-one walked away unhappy at the end of another spectacular Triton Poker Series event.
