I asked this of George Lind in his well as well but:

Estimation of ROI in these live tournaments:

EPT Grand Final Main Event (ME)
WSOP ME (assume 7000 runners)
PCA ME
Aussie Millions ME (have you played this before? assume 700 runners)
APPT Sydney (same as above, assume 700 runners)

since i dont play stars rly, i can only comment on ftp after black friday:
- less traffic (plo sh 1k+ is almost dead)
- better tables overall imo
- i get more action plo hu. it seems like less regs sitting around

i rly have no idea about the other games. what i heard is that midstakes nlhe lost a ton of traffic.

@ roi in these trnys:
i rly dunno. i also highly doubt a single person can ever get a big enough sample size lifetime to rly tell his/her true roi. we can only find approximations. even if u pool sample sizes of several plrs, its still not clear probably what the roi can be for a solid player.

but from my experience of ept main events so far, i think they are clearly +ev for me, but at the same time clearly not printing money. ppl are solid, u play many hours etc. hourly wise it cant be good.

side events tho seemed rly soft, but even lets say roi of 75% in a 2k event is not much money hourly wise. u play 2 days for 1.5k

i rather play some hours plo hu online with less variance and less time involved for the same money.

i also expect the 10k events in vegas to be clearly +ev for me, but hourly wise even those might not be such a burner. i just decided to play those one time and be happy if i luckbox into the money

in $ its around 15k above and below
in bb, hm ... at max i think 20 stacks below ev. i remember one rly ugly graph on 400 with more than 20stacks below ev.

but i rly dont look at ev line very often. the ev info (if u are not SSS or MSS plr) rly doesnt help u all that much. if u are above ev u might think "oh damn, next down is coming, i better not play" lol and if u are below u might think "oh damn, gotta chase this fuckin losses. im so unlucky. fml"

ev line shows only ev when the money goes in. xtremely biased short term. also, u dont see any set-ups.
so u can even be 10 stacks below ev and run like god in setups and be up 20bb/100.

ah, that won't be the case for the WSOP you will find :P. Side events are significantly tougher than the ME. But of course side events 1.5k and below are still very easy. ty for the answers though

Of a kind of related note, I heard that the ME is +ev for a NL100 FR player, this was when the field was larger tho. That being the case for TT I hoping it's ROI 100%+.

Oh and I'm a NL100 FR reg so if anyone has $10k lieing around they don't know what to do with, they could put a horse in the race :f_biggrin:

Hello my coach( I watched every single video of yours)

I played NLSSS(10-50) for half a year and earn enough bankroll for BSS25(50BIs).

So I decided to play sh25

I copied your style and the first 30k hands i got around 5-7bb/100 but it went downhill from 48k onwards with a 1.5-2.5bb/100.

And I have been above EV all the time like 4-8BI above.
Does this means I am just a luckbox and lucked out for the first 30k hands? or is it time for the EV to even out? or I am on a downswing....

Please ADVICE!!!!

Thank you for "coaching" sessions and cant wait that I have the money to hire you 100%!!

dont focus on ev lines too much. some buy-ins above ev doesnt tell u anything. u can be up in ev but down in setups (u dont see those in any ev line)

just play your best and move up in limits with decent brm. u wont know your true winrate till u have 250k hands sample. but dont worry, as long as u improve and make some money its fine ;)

Hi, I read your entire blog, but didn't want to spam it, so this would be the better place for me :)

No question, just best wishes. Oh, and if you ever come to Serbia, let me know, we can trade some tennis lessons for some poker lessons (I'll be giving the tennis lessons, not poker )

Best training site(s) for nlhu 2/4-5/10 and plohu 0,5/1-2/4.

Biggest leaks of nl200 players? nl400?

Are there some specific things one usually needs to change in his game to make a transition from nl200 to nl400?

Can you cook?

Most effective live tell you use frequently?

pokerstrategy.com!!!!

2nd best sites:
for nlhu clearly dc imo (manyyy rly rly exceptional hu nl coaches and many vids). for plohu clearly bfp imo (socalquest for midstakes, galfond for highstakes)

biggest leak overall: not self critical and self reflecting enough (poker skill and mindset wise)

till nl200 u can play your overall game plan. from 400++ u have to play your opponents. forget general lines. play special lines vs special reg and adjust your lines vs the fish. from my experience their behavious gets more xtreme. a laggy fish on 200 converts into a maniac on 2k.
just focus more on rly playing your opponent.
also, pro mindset is crucial!

no, i go to restaurants for the most parts. standard stuff i can cook ofc, but im not a pro.

by far: betsizing. ppl live are 100 times worse than online plrs when it comes to betsizing. they literally tell u their hand. thats why there is almost no vairance involved. and i played as high as 50/50 so far. even on "higher" limits its rly insane how bad ppl are when it comes to their betsizing

i guess its easier when u post hands with their exact betsize and their and your stack size. its tough to find general statements.

like for online poker its easiest to learn by posting and analysing hands.

im still wondering why there is no section for hands played live. although the game is the same and the same math rules apply, there is soo much more info + since there are not buttons and u have to pick the sizing yourself most ppl give away everything.

one example out of a million possible ones:

utg (2000€) open raises 4bb (40) pre. i call (4500€) mp. rest fold.
flop (175): 5s8hJc rb - utg cbets 150, me calls

turn (475): 8s - utg bets 250. at this point its obvious he bets his 1pair (mostly overpair cuz other hands he limps pre) and he feels like he has to bet cuz board gets a bit more wet. but he also doesnt feel comfortable betting biiig. if he had JJ he wouldn bet that size. although its great, he would bet 400 or check and slowplay. so he has QJ, KJ, AJ or QQ, KK, AA.
now the only question we have to ask ourself: does he fold strong 1 pair vs our turn raise and river shove. if answer is yes, we raise turn (obv repping trips) and shove river. i usually raise healthy turn to pick up dead money on river. although his river odds get better if i raise turn big, it doesnt change his river calling frequency .. why? cuz he has no idea about maths and about poker. he never folds turn ofc but on the river he is too scared to lose all his stack.

[btw: hands like Ts9s are not in his range cuz this guy never raises this hand 4bb utg. Maybe AsTs .. but for the most part 1 pair hand without any draw. so weak made hand. we just need to figure out if he is capable of folding his hand by the river. i think most ppl will for 200bb] esp if they dont have more money with them.

there is sooo much info out in live games, its sometimes even too much for my brain to process. but it helps sooo much to make decisions that are way closer to optimal than online.

i think to rly become good in live game, u have to discuss hands . either online or live or in skype. wherever. but keep in mind there is more info out that u can use.

a few follow up questions about live poker
1. do u talk to fish at the tables?
2. do u listen to a IPOD while u play?
3. have u played no limit omaha?
4. What kind of BR would u need to play a 1/2 NLO deep (500bb max) game (outta curiousity, i am too much of a omaha fish to actually try it)?

yes, talking to fish = more info + if they enjoy their stay at the casino = more money for us longterm

never. u lose soooo much info listening to music imo. -EV

no never played NL omaha

nl omaha probably has less variance than plo. like wih nlhe. u will see more folds pre and on the flop when u can bet more than pot and also the implied thread of big bets on future streets.

nlhe 200 live i think 10 stacks is enough br deep tho i would double it

in omaha short term variance is still higher, so i would just double it. like 20 stacks 100bb and 40stacks brm if u play 500bb deep.

ofc, more buy-ins is always good. but from my exp variance in live games is not big as ppl are just so bad.
