I have a hand on which I'd like to hear some of your thoughts. It's basically a spot I almost never find myself in so I got rather confused.

Stats on villain:

No other reads before the hand. I'm asking how do you think it's the best way to play, then I'll post what happened and hopefully get some more feedback from you since you are somewhat in touch with the micros given the book project with JB.

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $0.20(BB) Replayer
Hero ($22.66)
BB ($20)
UTG ($20)
CO ($12.38)
BTN ($26.28)

Dealt to Hero 2♠ A♠

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.60, BB raises to $1.80, Hero raises to $4, BB calls $2.20

FLOP ($8) 2♣ T♥ K♥

As a side note: the Fold to 4bet stat was non existant before this hand so I didn't know he will also call with some of his range.

We have to assume he shoves low pockets, Axs and monsters. So his range here should be mostly weak broadway combos. all of them hit that F but not rly that hard (given that he doesnt have AK, or slowplayed KK/AA). I would either c/f F and let him have it this time or bet bet shove. Often he will have AQ, AJ, JT etc etc. Those hands mostly call 2 but rarely 3. If any other >T card hits I wouldnt follow through.

Yeah, I thought he shoves like any good holding and could well have called some ridiculous hand because of pot odds. I decided to cbet and based on his reaction I'll plan for further streets. He tank called my ~1/3-1/4 pot cbet. When he tanks I think he has showdown value but definitely not premium so I decided to try and make him fold it. Premium would snap call imo and draws have an easy decision to shove, like FD. I think he could have funky Tx, stubborn AQ, AJ, JJ, QQ although to me it makes sense to fist pump shove JJ+ in BvB with aggro image against someone with aggro image as well.

This is the whole hand.

FLOP ($8) 2♣ T♥ K♥

Hero bets $2.40, BB calls $2.40

TURN ($12.80) 2♣ T♥ K♥ 6♦

Hero bets $4, BB calls $4

RIVER ($20.80) 2♣ T♥ K♥ 6♦ 7♣

Hero bets $12.26 (AI), BB calls $9.60 (AI)

Hero shows 2♠ A♠
(Pre 32%, Flop 19.8%, Turn 11.4%)

BB shows J♦ J♣
(Pre 68%, Flop 80.2%, Turn 88.6%)

BB wins $38

He tanked both flop and turn and snap called river. I guess his decision was made on the turn and it makes sense to call on that blank. I am surprised he thought a NL20 player is capable of barreling 3 streets there with basically air after 4betting preflop. My range for playing like this is basically some Axs bluffs and TP+ (some Kx bluffs now have TP and I doubt folding TP in 4bet pots is going to show a profit) so I think although he made the right decision against my hand, my range does well vs him. Feels a bit silly to get snap called there in 4bet pot and show bottom pair. :f_biggrin:

I would've posted this hand in my blog but thought I had a higher chance of you replying if I post it here. Thanks for the help! :f_thumbsup:

Well, post your stats :P Isnt there a decent chance he slowplayed all the way cuz you play very aggressively? And the F+T tank is just to make sure you shove R.

But even if he is on a totally different level and was scared pre, shitting his pants F+T ... still, I dont expect them to ever fold Kx or JJ. Ofc, they dont beat your value range but their absolute hand strength feels to strong to them to fold BvB .....

Your play is def fine. We dont wanna fold out QQ, JJ, Kx but all his other 1pair or Ahigh holding. nh!

But also make sure you dont just mark his play as "stationy". On paper it could potentially be very good and if that wasnt 10c/20c but 1/2 or 10/20 I think - very much depending on your stats and your game overall - his line could be optimal vs your range and frequencies.

I didn't mark him as stationy but I did make a note of how he played the hand just to keep in mind his range in the future. After a few more hands he seems to be aggro pre and way more passive post. He is the only player I've found on NL20 that actually confuses me and not just surprises me from clicking random buttons. There are at least 2 more hands he played in which I wasn't involved that confused me quite a bit by the way he played them. I'm gonna look for those hands and post them later on in my blog. Would appreciate if you can take a look. I'll let you know in your blog when I post.

My stats overall are 25/20 with 10% 3bet. In this specific session I had approximately 27/22 and 12% 3bet I think. I could indeed look overly aggressive and might well induced a tilt call that was correct not necessarily a well thought bluff catch. On the other hand, maybe he's some crusher that was making a vid while I was playing and owned my soul!

Hey

- Who do you think is the best 6max producer on PokerStrategy?

- What do you think of the new videos from yourdoom and neverbluffing?

- How do you think videos have changed from CR 2008- PS2012?

- I think the one thing I would like to see more of would be live sessions

- Is there any chance you would do a video from 400+ NL? Live session would be extremely cool

- Was going to learn omaha and watch alottttt of your videos but decided to stick to NL now and would be cool to see a series from you.

If he is never folding Kx don't we prefer a c/call on the river as his value range is incredibly thin and everything missed. Also we beat ace high, we haz a purrrrrrrrrrrr :f_cool:

I dont think so. Those nitty guys just dont bluff AJ, AQ, QJ .... they check back and we can't bluff catch. So c/c seems a bit like a negative freeroll to me.
Overall ofc vs others we can def think about c/snapcall :)

- For me personally I would say Jeans' PLO vids are best cuz he teaches a "solid" PLO game and is not totally out of line like e.g. Skjervoy, unfortunately there haven't been many. For NL: Skill wise probably insyder19. For the abs majority of users I think Hasenbraten and now KTU are the most beneficial. Both are capable of teaching in a very logical, structured and easy to understand way (at least that's what I assume for most PS users, not all that much new stuff they can surprise me with). I would consider TwiceT vids exactly in the middle between advanced solid highstakes content and structured low stakes videos. I am way more focusing on edutainment and a natural way of presenting how I see things.

- I am def looking forward to Neverbluffing vids where we get to see how he approaches later streets postflop. Yourdoom is ofc also a great player. As a coach I personally prefer Neverbluffing.

- Today we mainly see reviews and back in 2008 we saw almost exclusively live vids. Reviews are def better for learning concepts, GTO strategies etc. Still live videos are also a good add-on to see how we put things into practice in a real time environment with factors like time pressure, recent history, dynamics etc

- Very unlikely for four reasons: I can only name three of them for now:
1) I really really enjoy making lower stakes videos. Its like getting paid a bit for an hour of having fun myself where I even make money playing. I have tough sessions so often anyway, that I like it a lot to sometimes just play low and try out how much is possible vs opponents who are just not adjusting (correctly). Also when I do private coachings I sometimes play and let my students watch. That a) helps them to see how I appraoch things we discussed in real time and b) is just so much fun for me. Definitely great to mix it up.
Furthermore, I really think the vids I made can help many plrs who are struggling with making serious money with playing poker. That's great.
2) In the end, its about money. My best games (in relative winrate vs others) are probably HU PLO 2/4-5/10 and RUSH 1/2 and 2/4. It is almost impossible to convince me to make a video in those games for only money. While I do privat coach PLO HU quite a bit, I never did Rush coaching (except for ppl who joined me on one of my trips last years) and I also dont plan on coaching the new format on Stars. So there is no incentive making vids for those games that are kinda special and getting a few bucks for it.
3) I play mostly PLO HU/SH, NLHE HU and only mix in higher stakes NLHE SH when I see a good game running. I am definitely not a NLHE SH regular these days like I was in 2010. If I produced a 5/10 NLHE SH vid I would want it to be very good and in order to to that I would have to put some hard work into it. I have so much hard work to do all day already, it's just not worth it, especially when there are pros out there who only play this game specifically.

I was thinking when is the best time to learn PLO and what is the best way to leran it and which limits do you advice to start with?
I play NLHE SH 25NL and have been playing that kind of game (this limit for 3 months) for about 8 months probably.
Where si more skill, in PLO or NLHE?

When: Yesterday :)
How: I am sure I ansered that question withing this AMA several times. Go through this thread and you will find several answers. There is not one magical way. Mix in everything that is available to you and be very self critical all the time when learning and applying things.
Where: Depends on your BR(M). Only you can answer that question.

I dont know how to answer your last question. Both games are not solved. There is an infinite number of variables, I dont feel skilled enough to say which game is more of a skill game. If we only look at the game and the possible hand combos etc PLO has to be more complex and therefore needs more "skill". But thats just half of the story. Metagame is so much more complex in NLHE than in PLO where your eq with specific hand ranges dictate how and if you play hands.
Both games def are skill games and both games need different skills developed to be successful. Both games are great imo.

Hey TT,

I am currently watching you PLOmahahaha series and i see you don't use a lot of stats on you HUD. Can you explain that please.
What do you have in you HUD, what things are you looking for when you categorise a player at PLO?
Another thing, if you raise pre, cBet flop and get called , with just a NFD would you bet turn as well? putting you opponent on a set,2Pair,wrap?
Thx

Also have you ever felt that you lose the ship it pre in PLO? AAxx,KKxxds againts the same range?

I like to have simple HUDs in general. But I did change it slightly lately with postflop frequencies added per street.

I dont play the stats, I play the player, the dynamics, the history, the board texture etc etc.

I just have standard stats in my hud. vpip/pfr/3b/fvs3b/af/wts
if i need more detailed stats i open pop up, and I also play very focused so my brain is my true hud :P

Very general question, but yeah mostly I bet my nutfd on turn. But it rly depends on quite some factors. Stacksizes, who is my opp, how does he play, board texture exactly. Positions. ..... (Un)fortunately its not that easy to give a clear cut answer here

One question I'm not sure has popped up yet...

HEM1 or HEM2?

Edit: Not which you use, but which you prefer/think is better/think would be better if they hadn't discontinued dev on 1 to release 2, etc.

I use HEM2 for 2 months now and I like it. Imo 2 >>> 1.
Runs very fast and stable for me.

This is my question:

Did you ever folded KK preflop? i'm asking this bacause of this spot:

This was a hand 180 BB's deep against an 10-2-0 player (1K hands), i putted him on aces:

Pacific, $0.03/$0.06 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

CO: $7.09 (118.2 bb)
BTN: $10.58 (176.3 bb)
SB: $11.55 (192.5 bb)
Hero (BB): $10.68 (178 bb)
UTG: $3.14 (52.3 bb)
MP: $6.84 (114 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K K
UTG calls $0.06, MP calls $0.06, CO folds, BTN raises to $0.12, SB raises to $0.54, Hero raises to $1.32, 3 folds, SB raises to $4.20, Hero????

If he was ever ever ever using his table image. he wouldn't end up with those stats. Self-own by yourself :)

ofc folded numerous times in FR games vs nits. some just play their cards face up.

call for set and stack his AA every time. His range is KK+ probably lol. You block KK yourself, so you either get it in as split or you are 4:1 dog
