Play hand

$0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Known players:
[tg]BU$1.67:///////;SB$9.98:///////;BB$2.20:///////;MP2$5.87:///////;MP3 (Hero)$5.25:///////;CO$5.00:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 5:s, 7:s.
MP2 raises to $0.16, Hero calls $0.16, 3 folds, BB calls $0.11.

Flop: ($0.5) 4:h, 8:s, 3:d (3 players)
BB checks, MP2 bets $0.36, Hero calls $0.36, BB folds.

Turn: ($1.22) 8:h (2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $0.75, MP2 raises to $1.52, Hero raises to $4.73, MP2 folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $2.74.

I was a bit hesitant to shove turn fearing that she will call with over pairs esp that she is 100K richer now. She might think $5 is just pocket change

:O She won $103k and still playing nl5?

Yeah, she is platinum playing at 5NL. I was a bit surprised she didn't move up after winning that big. By the looks of her stats, I think she just plays for fun and loves multi-tabling. She is nitty and straightforward but is -6BB/100 over 2.3K hands.

made two nice bluffs today...

Play hand

$0.05/$0.1 No-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)

Known players:
[tg]CO$22.32:///////;BU$12.68:///////;SB (Hero)$13.59:///////;BB$14.09:///////;MP3$12.63:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9:s, 7:s.
MP3 folds, CO raises to $0.30, BU folds, Hero raises to $0.90, BB folds, CO raises to $1.89, Hero calls $0.99.

Flop: ($3.88) Q:h, 3:h, 7:c (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks.

Turn: ($3.88) 5:h (2 players)
Hero bets $11.70, CO folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $3.88.

Thoughts:
1. Villain gave me 1:3 to odds preflop, so I called
2. Villain showed weakness when he checked back flop
3. I decided to shove turn because an overbet "value" shove is plausible reg vs reg (depends on history). However, my main reason for shoving is not to represent a hand BUT to narrow down his calling range to a slowplayed set only (which is near 100% NOT in his range when he checked back flop in a 4bet pot + FD board). Also, by shoving I deny the possibility for him to re-raise shove with any A :heart:x (though I also expect him to bet flop with it).

Preflop: Hero is CO with 7:d, 6:d.
MP2 raises to $0.30, MP3 folds, Hero calls $0.30, 2 folds, BB calls $0.20.

Flop: ($0.95) 7:c, Q:h, 9:c (3 players)
BB bets $0.20, MP2 calls $0.20, Hero raises to $0.95, BB calls $0.75, MP2 folds.

Turn: ($3.05) J:d (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.79, BB calls $1.79.

River: ($6.63) A:d (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $4.20, BB folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $6.63.

Thoughts:
A. I sometimes 3bet this hand IP but decided to call hoping the recreational player in the big blind would come along and I flop a strong hand.
B. BB donks 2bb multiway and based on my experience in the micros, I rank his hand as follow:
1. pair
2. draw
3. 2 pairs or better

I decided to steal the pot from original raiser and isolate BB if he continues.

C. I decided to bet just about half pot on the turn because:
1. If villain has or improved to a monster, he will likely 3bet me here for value so I will lose less.
2. If villain just calls, I get the same info on his range with lesser investment. On the flipside, I am giving him good odds to call if he indeed has a flush draw. But the funny thing about recreational players is that they tend to get attached to "flush draws" for some reason and will continue to chase even if we overbet. With only one street to come, I thought it's fine to bet smaller. My plan is to check/fold if river completes the flush.
D. I am afraid of an A in the river same as a :club: since its possible that villain could have A7, AQ, A9 at this point. I admit my river bluff has a very little fold equity now, but nah

I'm a HU noob so I'm sorry but this hand doesn't make sense to me. You have SD value and there is almost no better hand that is going to fold. An 8 might not fold, the SD's got there and you beat all the FD's. The only thing he can fold here is 22 or A7.

I'm not giving any critic just asking for some explanation.

Was abit unsure about to move myself, but daun confirmed its a good move (see my blog, he replied).

I guess its more of an experience matter. Villain is not showing any aggression at all. His range seems to be:
- missed draws/overcards
- 4x and maybe 7x and 6x
- not many 5x combinations in his hand, the only ones are 45 65 and some overcards/draws maybe

Imo I'm good ~33% of the time OTR, but I saw a better profit by just jamming the river after showing no aggression.

Thoughts:
When villain checked river, I thought he can only have a bluff-catcher type hand like Ax. I looked at his stats and he is 15/13 in 86 hands. Not much hand sample but I assumed that he is a risk-averse type player and may fold any one pair hand if I overbet shove.

Another good spot to river shove bluff against straightforward TAG...

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$0.1/$0.25 No-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)

Known players:
[tg]BU$27.05:///////;SB$22.06:///////;BB$10.00:///////;MP3$26.69:///////;CO (Hero)$42.29:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is CO with T:s, 8:s.
MP3 raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.75, 3 folds, 2 folds, BB folds.

Flop: ($1.85) 7:s, 6:h, 5:h (2 players)
MP3 bets $1.25, Hero calls $1.25.

Turn: ($4.35) 8:c (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $3.25, MP3 calls $3.25.

River: ($10.85) 7:h (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $37.04(All-In), MP3 folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $10.85.

Thoughts:
1. Villain's MP raise first-in stat is 13%, I have been very active at this table and 3betting a lot in position, I have a hand I love to take postflop so I decided to flat because the likelihood that villain may 4bet is high.

2. Flop is good for my range, while villain flopping a monster is very unlikely since his raise first in stat in MP is really tight. If I 3bet here, and villain min4bets for any reason, I will be in a push or fold situation with a marginal hand, which I try to avoid as much as possible in any situation. And if I choose to shove, villain may get pissed off of my aggression and will call with overpairs with the intent of bluffcatching, so I decided to flat call.

3. Turn is another non-highcard + villain checks = fold equity increase. I bet, but villain called. His range is mostly overpairs at this point.

4. River 7 . Another 7 narrows his set range to 66 or 55 at this point. Some TAGs may slowdown with these hands on the turn and hope river pairs the board before they commit their stack. However, the percentage that villain holds overpairs is still higher than him holding a monster.

5. Now the question is how much to bet to get him off his overpair. I thought that if my betsize is valueish like 75%-pot, villain may still bluffcatch here because of my image, so I decided to overbet shove to shut him off completely and thought that even the nut flush will be in a tough spot here.

Nice one spreeboy!

I still have to master the art of overbetting. I'm losing tons of money with it atm.

Wazzup Rast... yeah we must choose our spots wisely or else the whole thing would backfire bigtime

Here's another spot where villain could hardly have 2 pairs or better on the turn...

I didn't 3bet preflop because villain opens very tight in early position and I hate to be in a 4bet spot with JJ. Board is good for my range and we are deep so I decided to make a move. Actually, I was worried about the river completing a flushdraw, but if the turn card brings a second suit that doesn't mean that villain is 100% on a flushdraw. Also, his flush draw combos are fewer than his overpairs combos in MP3 since he is opening like 7-8%. So I put him mostly on overpairs when he just called my turn 3bet. I decided to overbet shove river to put maximum pressure to make him fold even if he has AA. I admit, this is a really risky and scary move that I may be afraid to do it again

Indeed. But I think I might be betting to small. People are just calling me with 2nd pair and stuff. I mean I'm usually right about their range that it is capped and they have a hand they SHOULD fold, but they rarely do :(

Here is a hand where I played AKo unconventionally by flatting rather than 4betting. If I am up against two regs, I'll 4bet squeeze most of the time and hope to take down the pot preflop...

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$0.1/$0.25 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Known players:
[tg]CO$30.79:///////;BU$36.87:///////;SB$18.36:///////;BB$33.38:///////;MP2 (Hero)$27.06:///////;MP3$25.00:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with K:c, A:s.
Hero raises to $0.87, 2 folds, BU raises to $2.40, SB calls $2.30, BB folds, Hero calls $1.53.

Flop: ($7.45) 3:d, 8:d, 5:c (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BU bets $4.10, SB folds, Hero raises to $9.25, BU folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $11.55.

THOUGHTS:

BU is a reg which I pretty much respect and I know he respects my play as well. We locked horns before but with decent hands and never really made crazy plays against each other.
SB is a one-tabler with only about 75BB and I have no read him yet, so when he just flat the BU 3bet I was a bit cautious.

1. I don't like 4betting here bec the overcaller likely have a hand that he would stack off preflop with 75 BB es. By experience, a recreational player will mostly do this with mid to premium pairs to slowplay. And I hate flipping with AK against a rec player with a pair because I have a bigger edge postflop.
2. 4bet shoving is worse because BU may wake up with a monster too. So that leaves me with a not so optimal OOP call multiway with AKo.
3. I check to evaluate their actions. BU cbet, then SB folds. Now I am up against the reg who knows how to fold if he didn't have it.
4. I thought that on a low flop like that, BU 3bet range does not hit monsters too often and when I flat his preflop 3bet, my range is more "mid-pair heavy" than his. So I decided to 3bet his flop cbet to represent mid pair because I thought he could not continue with overcards knowing that I would likely shove turn. END
