Hi all!

I decided a few days ago to get back in to the fray of poker after a very very long layoff. I played poker over 10 years ago but I never studied and was no good. I played only in live games and was very vulnerable because of the fact that I tilted easily and had no sense of BR management etc.

I'm going to call myself a beginner as I never learned how to play properly before! :f_drink:

I'm looking to play the game with discipline this time around. I'm a lot more mature, and I have the experience of playing competitive Scrabble for the past 18 months to help me, from a mental perspective at least. The game gets ever so volatile at times and like poker, sometimes you can't prevent a loss even with good play.

I'm going to try and make use of all the coaching videos that are relevant to micro stakes action. I'm not here to get rich, but I want to play as optimally as I possibly can, and I'll take pleasure in the results that follow if I can do that for long enough.

I really want to eradicate bad habits at the beginning, so I hope that you all won't mind me posting some hands for analysis etc. They are only 2c/5c hands.

It's great to be part of a big community. I look forward to getting to know all of you

What kind of games will you normally play?
Cash Games? Sit-and-Go? MTTs?
Do you just play Hold'em or do you play any other variants?

If you're totally new to poker, I recommend reading our No Limit Hold'em lessons overview articles first.
That article leads you through the basics and beyond.

I'm debating over whether I should play Micro Stakes cash (2c/4c) or Micro Stake SNG's. Not interested in MTT's as grinding for hours to make potentially $1 or $2 is going to be dissatisfying.

I'd like to just play Hold'em. When I used to attend casinos when younger, I played 4 to 6 card PLO and it was sick.

I've been reading everything from the start again, learning about Pot Odds etc. I'm treating myself as a beginner because if experience has taught me anything, doing something wrong for years doesn't make you good at it. It just means that you did it wrong for a long time!

I want to try and learn how to play optimally. The money will come if I do that. But it is easier than it sounds. If it was easy...everyone would be doing it! I'm not looking to do this as a profession though - at least not unless I discover that I have the discpline and a bit of talent.

If Neville Bartos would give me the cash he owes me, I wouldn't be playing poker! :f_tongue:

I'm not sure how many buy-ins I'd need to play SNG's exclusively, but I am tempted to go that route over cash games. Nathan Williams has said that cash games are harder than tournaments. I'll do my research and decide in due course
