In Q6, I am confused, in my calculation, the required equity is 29% and not 45%. But the answer is the same (call).
In Q5, the required equity is 22%. I can't figure how the opponent's range is 23%.
Why equity only matters on river bet and all-in?
Equity sounds like a powerful tool. Why not also use it in other situations, like flop, turn, or non-all-in bet?

5x3 only gives you a gutshot draw i.e you must hit a 6 to hit your straight. 6x5 gives you an open ender as you can complete your straight with either a 3 or a 8.

Just be aware that equity that you have on earlier streets will often not be realised. Lets say you defend BB from a CO raise with 5s6s. The flop comes AhKh5h. Your pair gives you a chunk of equity but the river is a long way away, and it is going be difficult to realise that equity. An all-in on the river is a much more straightforward situation equity-wise.

Yes I agree all-in equity cannot but I would argue its still useful to think about (transient) equity. You just need to be aware that it can change. Its a very important concept in limit holdem, where I started, as you can build pots when you have a lot of equity and not be so easily pushed off it later in the hand. Personally I think first steps for any aspiring poker player should be to get comfortable with the sort of equity your hand has on each street along with pot odds when you are facing a bet (or betting into an opponent).

How did you get 23% in equilab? I tried removing bluff ranges but it's still not 23%.
Is there an option to specify which ones are bluffs?

Try our Fold Equity training and learn counting combos. If you do these exercises for just 20 minutes a day you will have a huge advantage over your opponents at the tables.

Hi,
I have a quick question about the relationship between odds vs pot odds and equity vs pot equity (referred to as required equity in the article). To me, comparing pot odds to odds is the same as comparing pot equity to equity. Equity is just much more complicated to calculate without a tool (thanks Equilab
and the rule of two and four is a quick shortcut that gives a good approximation based on outs. Is that correct ?

I think Chaser is referring to Question 5 from the Equity: Final Calls quiz.
And I think the solution says that you need 29% equity because you are supposed to bet $2 into a pot of $7, and 2/7=0.285714..., or roughly 0.29. In other words, you are not supposed to count your own bet to the pot, only your opponent's, since his bet would be won while your own bet would be merely returned.
Maybe I'm completely off on this, I haven't dealt with NL Hold'em cash equities in ages, but at least the math seems to work out.

Required equity = price of calling/ (pot size + price of calling)
The price of calling is $7 and the pot size is $17.50.Required equity = 7 / (17.50 + 7) = 7 / 24.50 ≈ 0.29 = 29% equity
In our example:
price of calling = $2.00
Pot Size = $5.00
So the required equity is 2/(5+2) = 2/7 = 0.29
In the quiz it is unclear if the $5.00 pot includes the $2 bet already or not.
The second part of the question is should you call.
Given the range in the example, here is what Equilab says:

The correct response according to the quiz is fold, though.
Looks like you just compared preflop equities, but the hand from the example is played on the river.
As the solution there says, your opponent has 36 value combos that beat you, and 11 bluff combos that you beat, thus putting your equity at around 23.4%, which is less than the required equity of 29%.
