The correct response according to the quiz is fold, though.

Looks like you just compared preflop equities, but the hand from the example is played on the river.

As the solution there says, your opponent has 36 value combos that beat you, and 11 bluff combos that you beat, thus putting your equity at around 23.4%, which is less than the required equity of 29%.

Wrong board, the board from the question is A♠:Q♥:3♠:7♣:2♣:. That must be why we're still off from the 23% equity that the solution gives us.

Does Equilab take card removal into account, btw? I expect it does.

Well, at least Chaser's question should now be cleared up, I hope. :f_grin:

And card removal would be pretty important for the sake of this quiz question, at least, as this concept was specifically taught in one of the previous lessons and is expected to be applied here.

According to the article,
Required equity = price of calling / (pot size + price of calling)
If there is $5 in the pot, and the opponent bets $2, the pot size becomes $7. Price of calling is $2
So, the required equity is
2/(7+2)=0.23
Or am I missing something out?

The way the pot size in the question is presented is definitely ambiguous and could use some clarification, but after taking a closer look at Question 4 right before it, I think I have figured out the intended meaning.

Here's the situation from Q4:

And here's what the solution says:

Since you can only use the effective stack sizes for calculation, the pot size is $20 and not $41.60. If you insert these numbers into the formula the results will be:
18.40 / (20 + 18.40) = 48%

This clearly implies that the $40 that your opponent is betting there is supposed to be a part of the $41.60 pot already, with the remaining $1.60 representing dead money to be won (hence your effective stack size is $20, which is $18.40+$1.60).

If we apply the same thing to Question 5, it means that the pot including your opponent's bet is $5, and by calling $2 you would make it $7. In this case it's 2/(5+2)≈0.2857, which can be rounded up in order to arrive at 29% required equity, and the math works out.
