Your odds are favorable already have a pair of 8's lost your flush draw but have open end straight draw leaving you 9 outs so even if 5 of them were on the table still be 4 in the deck of 36 cards is better than 1 in 4 chance your card will fall. Could still win on trips but opponent 2 betting as high may have that . I would probably call but if I was to raise it would be least 3BB

All you have to do is weigh up the price Vs your winchance.
You have 8 outs, 2 cards, so 16 in 47 chance of winning.
The price is about 22 to win 55.
So just compare these 2 ratios. Easy.
They're very close. But we still haven't added our implied odds. If you hit the nuts, you can expect more profit on later streets so you the add this to your profit figures. That would take you way over the 16 in 47 that you need.
There are reverse implied odds too. And fold equity on later streets. It does get quite complicated, but it all stems from that very simple sum.
