Question 1: Post a hand for evaluation where you have played on a 6-max table (short-handed).

4nl, SH, TT on drawy board

Question 2: Evaluate one of the hands submitted by other members

QQ overpair, villain check/raised on turn.

Question 3:

well i would put CO on QQ+ and AQ. i don't really see what else he is playing this way with. so with that said, there is a strong possibility that 2 of our outs are taken (AA). the best case scenario is that we are up against KK, but even then it is practically a flip since we only have about 55% equity. it's easy to think we have a strong draw here, which we do, but if the opponent has a set of QQQ then he has a redraw and if the opponent has AA/AQ then some outs need to be discounted. i would consider calling here but i think given that a) we have a flip at best, and b) the BU called the all in, the best option is to fold. it is probably the case that we are in much worse shape than we think and that we have less outs than it seems. fold is my answer here.

Question 4:

I may well be wrong here, but I don't see much point in raising. when you have this sort of hand on that sort of flop we can assume we have the best hand. however, we can let him bet on the flop simply because it is improbably that he has a 4 - therefore a raise will fold out any other hand besides a weaker Ax. also, if he DOES have the 4, then raising definitely isolates us against him. AA would have raised preflop, A4 probably would have folded, 4x is unlikely simply because of the preflop action (although if we are 3bet on the turn we should reconsider the strength of our hand) and we will definitely get value from any other pocket pairs. obviously 44 is possible but it isn't likely. even though the pot is multiway, my answer is call here - we can assume we are ahead, and therefore we can plan to take the pot down on the turn by betting when checked to or by raising when bet into.

Good Job! Homework #7 Done!

About Question #3:
In this case, you decided to bet out yourself and two players behind you go all-in. You would have to invest $8.40 in order to participate in a $22 pot, which corresponds to an equity of 27.63%.

Board: Q:h 3:s 2:h
Dead:

Equity Win DrawLoss Hand
Player 1: 38.538% 38.538% 0.000% 61.462% 5h4h
Player 2: 14.540% 14.540% 0.000% 85.460% QQ+
Player 3: 46.921% 46.921% 0.000% 53.079% 22-33

You get the required odds even when you're exclusively up against very strong hands!

About Question #4:
Top pair / top kicker has been and will always be a hand that's tough to play, especially in a multi-way pot. In this case, you've hit a nice flop, but you're up against 3 opponents on a dry board which doesn't allow for any dangerous draws.

A fold on this board is, of course, too weak. You can't really hit much better and there might be worse Ax hands willing to pay you off.

If you think that your opponent(s) is/are often willing to go broke on the flop with worse hands, raising might not be the worst of choices. But one thing is clear: if you raise, you have to go all-in on the flop! Raise/fold with your top pair is absolutely out of question.

Even though this might leave a bitter aftertaste in a 4-way pot, you should play this like a way ahead / way behind spot here - by playing it passive, you will extract the maximum from weaker hands and bluffs while avoiding big losses against stronger hands.

Good luck on tables and with the Course. Some more points earned.

next homework coming soon - i'm pretty busy atm with lots of university stuff - still playing tho. having a pretty shit time with it though, being break even over a good 12k hands. i don't really know what i'm doing and i have no way of finding out my leaks which really sucks. im playing my normal game and i really need to find my leaks.. i'm posting hands and reading etc but i just can't seem to work through nl4 :( i am see-sawing between 180 and 210. my sample is 25k hands - not huge but being break-even over half of that makes me think i have a load of leaks.

i filtered my reports with HEM and i am actually break even with everything i play other than pocket pairs. even AK i am break even!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

i guess i may be overvaluing AK looking at the SD winnings and NSD winnings... but other than that i am stuck.

i'm thinking about getting some private coaching with you veriz but i'm not sure if it is necessary yet..

Well, that kind of sample size is pretty standard for a so called "downswing". You can use it for fixing your leaks and in long run it's gonna bring you a lot of more money as if you fix your leaks in lower limits. I would just try to ignore the beats and try keep playing, that's what I have learned so far from the experience I had. If you are going to take a look at the losses then you gonna lose even more.

Well, definitely. That's a common leak to overplay the hand, you have to search spots where you are even 3bet/Folding, you have to search for spots where you just Calling, you have to search for spots where you might even just drop the hand directly.

i'm thinking about getting some private coaching with you veriz but i'm not sure if it is necessary yet..

Well, I wouldn't advice to get it right now, lets try to fix the leaks with Hands of yours and see how we gonna do. Also of course with the Course overall. But if you still want to get the Coachings, I have given so far for those who order coachings from me, some free hours since they finish the course.

Question 1: Post a hand for evaluation.

nl4, fr, 99

Question 2: Evaluate one of the hands submitted by other members.

nl2 AJs turned pair, rivered flush

Question 3: Consider the following situation:

i would bet between $15-$19 here. i don't want to see another heart come out so we need to protect. if we interpret our opponent's check as him being scared of the flush we could check behind and this way we may get some extra value out of hands like top pairs, 2pairs, overpairs. we can assume if another heart doesn't turn up on the river that he will probably bet and therefore, if we believe the check is weak then we could squeeze a little more value out of this hand by checking behind.

BONUS Question 4 (optional question): Consider the following situation:
the CO is TAG and at that limit if he is TAG i'm assuming he's a pretty solid player. i don't believe an 8 is in his range because of this. given the preflop action and the bet on the flop i would put him directly on pocket QQ and therefore in this spot we should fold. with QQ on the flop, he has an overpair and so he has every reason to think he is ahead. on the turn he checks because the K is a scary card but he fills up on the river and tries to ship it. i would have a very hard time laying this down but i think here it is the best play. the only other hand he could have is KK, but i doubt that he would check behind here if he did hit his FH here. this is why i think he has QQ and, as well as this, not only are we >160BB deep, but he also has us covered. at the same time, we have already invested a lot of our stack and it is really hard to say whether or not it is worth getting it in. i believe the slowplay on the turn is not a good idea. it is a really tough situation - i think the best play is fold, but whether or not i could resist marrying this hand if i were playing is another matter.

Good Job! Homework #8 Done!

About Question #3:
In this case, the right answer is quite obvious. Both AF and WTS speak in favor of a check behind for bluff induce. But your hand is too strong here, so you want to get it all-in on the turn. There are a lot of hands you still have to protect against, too. Playing for bluff induce or pot control would simply be too weak and dangerous.

Didn't want to do Question #4? :>

Best of Luck in The Exam! Some more points earned.

About Question #4:
About preflop play I'd say that it's still doable while we even are a bit deeper. I expect the hero to play solid postflop play. So Calling is definitely fine here with having 2 opponents in the hand and getting great implied odds. But for more beginners it's deifnitely a very close spot while they ain't gonna be able to laydown weak hands.

As we have the information that CO is a TAG player. Therefore, we expect him to have a strong 3bet range. Unless we have some other information like he has a wide 3bet range. But while we don’t have that, we basically consider his range to be something QQ+, AK or sometimes even tighter.

So now you have to ask yourself what kind of hands would play like this on river? KK may slowplay like this. QQ definitely is as well in his range. AK/AA he wouldn’t play this way since he know himself as well that he isn’t going to get Called by worse hands. So basically it’s up to the nuts most often. You only beat bluff there and I don’t expect the opponent to bluff in this case unless we know the table dynamics better.

Most likely there will be news about this. It's very likely that you passed. Sven didn't send me yet the exams of yours so I can't check it. :(

Good Job! Your exam is done and evaluated!

I would now advice to take a look at the No Limit Advanced Learning path. Which is located here: No Limit Advanced Learning Path. Although it's without any homework but it's still a path which will help you get the understanding of more advanced stuff. Although it may require higher ranks. Some may require even Gold status.

You are still welcome to use this thread for your progress and if you face any questions about your play/stats or anything you want to ask. Also don't hesitate to continue posting hands which I will be most likely evaluating.

About your exam:
You did take the exam really seriously and that's only good since the more seriously you take poker the more likely it will be that you invest enough time into to it to become a good poker player. I did really like the answers of yours. Although of course as most of the students you had also problems with the math tasks, needs still improvement. But well, it's more advanced part so I wouldn't really be worried about that! You did really great overall.

We most likely gonna continue evaluating your hands and of course your overall progress in this thread in future. We still have some leaks to fix.

In future we gonna concentrate more on your hands and try to fix some leaks which. Hopefully you gonna continue posting in the thread. We could take a look at stats and many different kind of things. Maybe even some mindset problem. :)

Although few questions I'd have to you, for example about TT vs 25% stealing range. How did you get 70%? And of course I'd still advice you to try to continue with the math calculations to improve your skills there, we can always try to discuss during the hands.

Do you have any questions about the exam?

Good Luck on the Tables and with the next learning Path. If you have any questions don't hesitate to hop in your Locker Room thread and ask or post your progress.

hey veriz thanks for the feedback!

yeah maths isnt a strong point of mine in general but i know i need to practice it more so i will be putting a lot of work in there - i am very determined to develop my poker in this area. one of the main reasons why i had problems with the maths of the exam was cos i actually didn't realise how to calculate the equity before although i know i had done it previously so i took a guess at how to calculate it and i think i understand it a little better from doing the questions in the exam. calculating the equity to do with the implied odds threw me a little bit so i felt a little lost there.

about the TT situation i can't remember the question...

in future when i post hands i'll try and talk as much as i can about equities to familiarise myself with it all!

the way i was calculating the equity was... pot size/amount to call = my odds against, then 100/odds against to get the %. hope that's right... maybe way off with that lol!

Equity is Calculated:

We need to know:
a) Pot
b) For us To Call
c) Pot+Us to Call

And equity comes from = ToCall/Pot+ToCall = Equity.

We can always discuss theory here and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask or either as well in the Hand Evaluation forums. :)

thank you for clarifying that veriz - this is probably why i did really bad on the maths questions! i will definitely be working on this now. i'm finding it hard to get volume in what with being at university.. i'm a pretty unorganised person but i know i need to start using hand evaluation much more so i plan to post many more hands and try and evaluate more hands in the forum.

hey veriz, i haven't posted here in a while so i thought i would update my progress.

i moved up to nl10 once i reached 20BI. im actually up to $238 now but i feel like my shot is having a bit of a meh... im either up to 250 or im down to 220. can't really seem to go anywhere. my big hands are having some bad luck where im either forced to fold or i make a stupid play and continue with them and lose a stack. a note to myself is to FOLD MORE!!! i do feel comfortable at nl10 but i just want to be up to at least 30BI for the limit and i will be happy. i also think its been an awesome learning curve and i think i've improved as a player since moving up there. i think a lot more about my decisions now which is good. probably because i can see more money involved!

here is the graph. its pretty crappy. we can say its standard but i know if i didnt have as many leaks then it would be so much better!

my stats are:

vpip: 16.9
PFR: 10.4
3Bet:2.6
WTSD%: 26.8
W$@SD: 47.2%
Agg: 1.88
post flop Agg%:33.7
Sqz: 2.5
vs3betfold: 58.7
cbet: 74%
