Anyone play shortdeck?

Just played some micro stakes for the fun of it, and its not that hard. I am still figuring out optimal pre-flop strategy.. but you got villain shoving 2 pairs into straights, top pairs into sets etc.. Alot of pre-flop raises based on No limit strategy in terms of sizing which is completely wrong for short deck. Made multiple stacks in a short time as villains love to play for them with crap holdings for this game type.

It's like they do not understand how outs have changed. But then again your all-in spots at times are only with sets for example are only marginal better if they have strong draws, especially to straights.

It feels like the game is at the beginning stages in terms of popularity etc. where No Limit used to be a really long time ago.

Any place to discuss strategy here already?

Hi Dragar,
I guess the most appropriate board for shortdeck would be "other poker variants", but short or not, it is still No Limit Hold'em

So I'll move this thread for the "No Limit" board.
I worry it would get overlooked in the "Other Poker Variants" board

Thanks for starting it -- it's about time we got a discussion going about this.

Cheers,
VS

strategy is to never open raise unless you are >100A. Standard buyin is usually 50A on Chinese Apps, but maybe people play at 100A+ on Pokerstars.

so you are mostly open-limping and then limp/shoving or limp/calling.

Since you are mostly playing a lot of limp pots, it's also important to understand BTN vs other position dynamics more than before. BTN can have the bottom 80%+ of hands so he connects well with low paired boards and 3 low-card boards. Even if UTG has a strong range with many overpairs, if he overcbets on a 669 board, the BTN can have 6X pretty often.

Same goes for a board like 6T8 -> BTN can have 86 T6 T8 79 66 88 TT whereas UTG only can have sets and overpairs as best.

other than that, and the fact that each out have ~3% instead of 2% chance of hitting, it's not too different. Someone with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of NLHE can transition over to Shortdeck without too much trouble. It only took me around 20-40 hours to get the hang of it.

it is NLHE but the dynamic of the game is closer to Plo IMO. Lots of limping, multyway pot, bigs draws and lot of action with narrow equity advantage.

Because of the smallest equity advantage préflop position is also much more valuable like in plo.

honestly short deck is such a stupid, no-skill game
i only play it because that's what the bosses want to play in my private games when they lose too much

I used to play short-deck pot-limit 5-Card Draw, but it doesn't exist online anymore.
People tend to overplay flush draws a lot, IIRC
