What version of pokerhands?
what site are you playing on?
Does pokerhands import your hands, and the HUD fails, or is it not importing either?

Not sure what version, it says "PokerHands beta 11e 12/13/2010" in the changelog.txt file

Can anyone advise me on using the HUD effectively please? (eg using HUD stats to gauge opening ranges, most useful stats to display etc)

I'm not saying it is all that great, but here is what I'm using at present:

It is tough to get ranges, since an open raiser will play a FD, 2pr and trips all pretty much the same way pre-draw.

I refer to the steal stuff a fair bit, and the showdown stuff the least.

If you are comfortable with editing your hud.xml file, let me know, and I'll send you the section that does the above.

Yes, saving a copy is vital.
Here are the instructions for editing. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious.
First, you must use a plain text editor. Notepad will do fine.

find hud.xml in your pokerhands folder.
Open it in notepad.
Search for
game="Five Card Draw">

The first one you fine will look like:

<activestyle game="Five Card Draw">VS 5CD</activestyle>

Search again.
The next one will look like:

<style name="Default" game="Five Card Draw">
It might not day "Default", but whatever it says will be fine.

Now open a second notepad instance.
download this file:

and and open it in the 2nd notepad window.
Press CTRL-A to select all, and copy it.
Paste it immediately ABOVE the "<style name..." line you found.
Save hud.xml

Now, when you open pokerhands, there will be a new entry:
VS 5CD
In your list of HUD configs, and you can edit it as you like.

I tried a couple of ways to paste the actual xml text into this message, but it seemed to mess up the format, and I couldn't be certain that it wasn't messing something else up too.

I've made the changes to HUD.xml and the HUD looks a lot more usefull, but when I go into HUD-Configure I am unable to select the check box for V5 5CD, or de-select the check box for Default, any idea how to solve this?

host = localhost or 127.0.0.1 (depends how I'm feeling)
port = 5432
user = postgres
pass = postgrespass

I used PgAdminIII to connect to postgre and all is well

its not such a high priority now though as I managed to get the latest version of FPDB to work! Someone up there likes me after all

Thinking of having a lazy stab at 5CD again, anyone got a Pokerhands installer handy, the links I had all seem to be dead these days..

got the database working fine but no HUD

I wonder if it's the missing piece that I failed to download, the patched .exe for the stars update (although I can't see why as it's reading my reverse engineered hand histories).

Vorpal if you're around can you please resend me the link for the .exe again as all I got was a 404 when I clicked the link and also manually cutting and pasting the code (f448751faf7​​9871680d​f​).

Yes, the .exe fixes the no-HUD problem.
I've just sent a PM with the link -- I tested it.

Thanks for the repost Vorpal, unfortunately still no HUD The program is importing hands OK (with out my hack running). I've tried all the styles.

Oh well NM its good to have a track on my progress. Maybe I'll hack my own HUD together and use PokerHands to do the import and DB management.
