After grinding 32 hours of work in the last 48 hours I got back to the poker table.

Back to the winning ways. Had a good session and there was lots of fish to go around. Despite talk in my staking thread about CAP being unbeatable, I just have a hard time seeing it with the quality of player in the games.

After about 16k hands in a week and even with 3 sessions where I ran 44 bi under ev I'm still up almost 400 big blinds. That's 2.5bb/100! And the best part is my game is far from refined. I made two changes today that should have some nice benefits. I was getting into bad situations with hands lie AK or 99 pre after min betting pre. I'd always have cold callers and I'd be oop. This has cost me lots. Solution is to 3x my entire range pre and remove the bottom 3% of hands. This includes 22-44 in ep as well as KJo and KTs also in ep.

The second change I made was to stop 3 betting light unless its bvb or blind vs button and when I do it will be a shove. It's too easy to call and play perfectly in position for the villain.

These changes have had an immediate benefit to my bottom line and kept me from gettin in those terrible post flop positions that lose me so much money!

Can you shove in CAP game? I thought that on each street betting was limited? Or maybe I don't understand something...

i think your referring to pot limit where you cannot shove on each street unless its for your entire stack and its less than pot.

on NL50 cap you can shove even preflop but you only have a cap of 20bb in one table at any given time.

CAP is meant as the max you can bet in a hand (ie 20bb). So you can shove 20bb preflop if you want, but no more money can go in after the cap is reached.

Edit: Phgrinder beat me to it.

Downside is you pay high rake (fixed limit levels) because you never hit the floor of the rake cap. This is why people say the game is unbeatable.

I will put in a lot more volume to find out for sure for myself but ATM it looks very probable that the game can be beat for upwards of 3bb/100 over the long haul. I know of some guys that grind out 3/6 cap for rakeback profit as well but even there I have heard of guys winning in big samples at 1bb/100 and that's the highest limit for cap.

Hello all,

Been a very busy time for me. Between the family and working 60 hour weeks I haven't been getting much poker in. On the other hand I'm making lots of money so that is always welcome.

Since I've been at work I decided I'd put in some more research on cap profitability. I was quite pleased with the results. Short stack heroes was the most helpful site on the topic. It seems that NL50 IS beatable with a decent win rate of up to 3bb/100!

The interesting thing though is that nl100 is actually the issue. It's the closest you get to the rake cap without actually hitting it. This means that even the greatest players will have a hard time grinding out even 1bb/100.

So what does this mean? Well according to what I read it appears that the best course of action is skipping nl100 all together and taking aggressive shots at nl200. This is the level where cap becomes truly profitable. Apparently a loser at nl50 and nl100 will have a much easier time winning at nl200 becomes of the substantial decrease on rake paid.

Now that we got that out of the way, I've got a few k hands in this week. After the big downturn my roll was down to $40 but I've put in some solid play and with the new changes I'm up to $200.

I need to keep it rolling though. Wish me luck.

Well, Good Luck Verre!

I would be cool if you could post some interesting Cap hands.

I played this on Full Tilt back in the good ol' days, but w/o much success.
Most likely due to the fact I hadn't a clue what I was doing.

Cheers,

It really reminds me of a sng in the mid or late stages if everyone had even stacks. It's very fun but a lot of interesting hands are either funny or sick beats. Since most every hand gets in before the flop it doesn't create many "sick" plays.

I have a lot of examples of terrible players. I also have a few examples of me playin poorly as well lol. Most of my study is based on equity vs ranges using poker stove.

I had another good session today. Fired up 12 tables but since I only had 20 bi I quickly had my whole roll on the tables. This always ends in me having to lower the amount of tables over the session. Some
Tables end up with $40-$50 dollars on them while others run dry. That's kind of why I'm still after a stake.

As always I might try and put another session in later. Hope I keep the momentum going because I'm on pace for platinum this month at stars and therefor on pace for sn.

Ahh I was gonna play some NL50 CAP but after some research I found this and NL100 CAP are really hard to beat. Will wait until I'm comfortably rolled for NL200 CAP before I try it.

GL!

Yeah I think I'm going to do my best to completely skip NL100 all together. I was goin to move up to NL100 when I had 2k which is conservative but I think I might just skip to NL200 at 2k and just take 10 bi stop loss shots.

Realistically NL200 should feel like a nice vacation because rake significantly lowers. In fact I have paid 2x more rake than I have profit. Thats a massive amount imo. But this also means if you can hit SN (which I obviously am not) you can get good rakeback.

Well since you requested some hands I figured I'd give you some from the session I played tonight. This is a small sample about what makes these games stupidly soft.

BB shows four of a kind, fours(2:h 4:h).

BB wins with four of a kind, fours(2:h 4:h).

Unfortunately this was not a highlight session for me as I ran 9 bi under ev and lost 12 stacks. I ran into a lot of cooler situations but I also played too loose with my 3 bets and got myself into some all in situations that where ill advised/ran into the top of thier range.

One thing I am going to work on is my shoving over opens preflop. A hand like 66 is a good example for my issue. I shove over a 20% open. Now what does he call with. Probubly the top 6% of his hands. Now here I am a 2-1 dog to that 6% range. This shove is actually marginally plus EV. 7 out of 10 times we win 3.5bb. 1 out of 10 times we win 11.5bb. 2 out of 10 times we lose 10bb. We expect to win 1.6bb of EV everytime we shove. But then there is rake. This makes it an even more marginal play, but still plus ev.

And in comes the reason I need the stake. I always make this play, but with a 20 bi bankroll its high variance and not very nice to do. \

I'll keep working on my playing ability though as I feel in the longrun this is going to be the game that I can develope a large edge in, expecially when I move up.

I played 200 NL 2 CAP hands last night, just to "see what it was all about".

It is like everyone is playing with an effective stack of 20BB.

A whole lot of shovin' goin' on!

It reminded me of play money games, tbh, where there a lot of random 3Bet shoves.

I did OK in the 200 hand session, but I don't think I'd like to play that way as a regular thing.

After my current project is over, I might consider playing 50K hands of CAP to really get a feel for it.

Cheers,

Yeah it's profitable but it's a somewhat mindless game. I can see myself playing it for the longterm if I get a stake but if I don't I do not know if it's worth it for me to keep grinding a small roll.

It's funny how the more I play it the more I crave the finer points of deep stack poker. I found myself drawn to mtts/PLO/flo8 today. I made a bit and then decided I would take an ill advised 1 bi shot at nl200 cap. Never the less I ran JJ into QQ against a guy who seemed loose but who knows because I only had about 20 hands on him. One of those things where it could have been great or fizzle quickly like it did.

If this stake doesnt come through I don't know how much longer I can muster up the enthusiasm to short bankroll this game. With me working so much it just seems more hastle than its worth.

Time to whine.

For whatever reason this stupid HM1 bug wont let me show tournament hands but....

9 hours into the Big 2. 15 players left. I am dealt AA with 1m chips. I open to 90k with 22.5/45k blinds from the button. SB insta jams for 800k. A5s.
Flop 246 all hearts, i had the ace of hearts. 3c turn. Ts river. Went from what would have been second place to now last in chips with 200k.

3 hands later, same blinds. TT. Guy min raises, I jam, calls with 99. snap 9 on the flop. This is also the third time I have got TT<99 ai pre in this tournament. I have just been able to keep rebuilding. I ran like complete crap and still made it this far. I just want to puke about the result.

Variance blah blah blah I should have won this. Feel like its such a joke to win 50 bucks when first prize was 1.6k and I played quite literally better than anyone else at that table. Now I get to wake up in 3 hours to go grind out 16 hours of work. Lovely.

Probubly not lol. I don't put in volume in mtts that I once could. Was literally the first mtts I have played of the new year. It's the next day though and I had a sleep since and well, I'm still extremely salty lol. Not often you play nearly perfect for a whole 9 hours. I checked back, since the first 2 hours of the tournament I had not got into a situatuon where I was all in for my tourny life! That's a pretty good recipe for success. Oh well I'll take another shot next month when I get another block of 8 hours of free time.
