PokerStars - $0.25 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $60.27 (VPIP: 27.27, PFR: 22.73, 3Bet Preflop: 7.69, Hands: 113)
SB: $25.00 (VPIP: 36.36, PFR: 36.36, 3Bet Preflop: 25.00, Hands: 11)
BB: $40.56 (VPIP: 27.59, PFR: 17.24, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 31)
UTG: $101.99 (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 9)
MP: $17.61 (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 33.33, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 9)
Hero (CO): $28.78

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.35) Hero has A♣ 4♣

fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.60, BTN calls $0.60, fold, fold

Flop: ($1.55, 2 players) J♣ 9♣ K♦
Hero bets $1.00, BTN calls $1.00

Turn: ($3.55, 2 players) 3♠
Hero bets $5.00, fold

Villain is a reg. Assuming that he's probably not strong on the flop (he would raise 2pair+) I think we have tons of foldequity with an overbet here (like 70-90%, unless he slowplays OTF).

Another possibility would be to bet the turn like 2/3 pot and then fire the river unimproved, maybe overbet there. Could have a higher EV maybe..

IMO this is ok if you overbet here sometimes with nuts/sets etc. too.

Hmm.. hard to do vs. a reg I would say. When he folds a ton here it may make sense to go smaller with the nuts.

Its just easy for villains to call you down if you only overbet as a bluff on this spot. So it makes sense to bet smaller(standard size) and bet river again as you would take this line with nuts? I think that you do have a lot of fold equity here though....

What is your plan otr on non :club: cards? You have made a big pot with A high and you have narrowed villains range to a strong range with your turn overbet. If you bet turn smaller villains range stays wider otr and you don't have to risk so much money on the river to bluff him out(vs if you overbet turn and bluff river).

Are you then always check/folding if you don't improve otr if he calls?

I don't think that your play was bad, I'm just thinking that is it better to bet smaller and bluff otr.

I think that flop should hit BTN's calling range and he has very often a piece of it. Could we play our draw more passively and x/c instead of cbet? I would at least slow down OTT. I don't like that overbet because you can't do it with the nuts and it is very expensive bluff.

I do not like the overbet when we have room to improve to the nuts. I really prefer the passive line more.

My plan was to give up in case he calls and I don't improve. This line is not balanced at all, of course. But it doesn't have to be because villains always fold if they don't have it and call if they have it vs. an overbet. That's why I think its right to bet smaller with the nuts for exploitative reasons.

Yeah it makes sense to bet smaller when we have room to improve. Maybe the overbet on the turn would be better with a lower flushdraw (villain has to fold better flushdraws that are freerolling us)

Inverted logic..., dangerous, very dangerous. Especially versus reg.

Big bet = bluff, Small bet = nuts. Now think about what I could mean.
