Hello,

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $1.55 (77.5 bb)
BB: $2.56 (128 bb)
Hero (UTG): $2 (100 bb)
MP: $3.09 (154.5 bb)
CO: $3.01 (150.5 bb)
BTN: $2.09 (104.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9 9
Hero raises to $0.06, 4 folds, BB raises to $0.20, Hero calls $0.14

V is an unk

Flop: ($0.41) 6 Q 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero ?

Really no plan here. Xback seems ok, but so does a bet / fold. Board does not allow any draws. Not sure if one-and-done is efficient here. He could not give up a huge chunk of his range and betting multiple streets seems like burning money...
Really puzzled.

I usually stab like 1/2p when checked to here then we can check back the turn if called. And then make some river decisions if villain bets but if it goes check/check we do pretty good at showdown imo.

Edit, sorry, misread the original post.

I don’t see why you raised it preflop. Gonna find yourself in some awkward spots and this dude is unknown! Perhaps you were following GTO? I suspect GTO will be a mixed strategy between raising and calling preflop.

If you were following GTO, that doesn’t means it’s a good play, it just highlights how much GTO sucks against unknowns. Playing tighter is just better. Especially in a 2c game.

Its only an open raise you shouldn't limp 99 from utg.

Ah sorry, completely ignore that post, I thought we 3bet it. It all makes a lot more sense now lol...

I don’t like checking back the turn Reds. I mean, what’s his range for that flop check? TT, JJ QQ?? Perhaps he is slow playing AA. Or he could defo just be giving up with air.

He folds his air to the flop bet. He raises his QQ on the flop or turn so it costs us 1 or 2 streets. He folds the turn or river with his TT and JJ meaning we take from him 1 or 2 streets. The slow played AA is the only hand that might screw our barrel but I think he’d usually just Cbet it.

If we check back that turn we’re not folding out JJ and TT.

Anytime the villain shows weakness like this i’d need a good reason not to apply massive pressure. If I ever see them slowplaying strong hands like the AA here I write a note and will rinse them when they Cbet as they will usually be weak.

Raising pre-flop is pretty standard. If you face a 3bet I would fold most of the time against a unknown. Cbetting will be tough when you aren't the pre-flop aggressor, but Betting for thin value is a decent option on the flop.

Cheers,

Possibly some Ax like AK AJ that might check call a street sometimes and then some 6x and 5x not much because it's bb vs utg.And if you can get a hand like TJs KJs to fold there equity then that's o'k as well.Im not sure betting is the best line here it's just the go to line id take when checked to.

I don’t mind betting the flop, you said you’d then check the turn it’s this I think is a bad idea.

I did think AK might be planning to float one street, but checking back the turn just gives them a better chance of improving. Betting the flop then barrelling the turn and the river seems like the best play to me.

Were ahead of enough 1 pair hands still so we have decent showdown value. The flop bet folds some of villains equity i'm just not a fan of a turn barrel if were called on the flop. But im not against betting the turn i guess it might be an ok value bet.But at most id say turn could be for value but firing the river unimproved is turning your hand in to a bluff i would think. If we bet the turn and get called and checked to on the river. I think we should be taking our showdown value unimproved at that point.

I’m literally just trying to fold out TT and JJ by the river. We don’t get any value after the flop so I am fully turning this hand onto a bluff.

When he shows weakness like that I feel it’s my duty to make him fold. I’d make the same play with air.

That seems pretty unnecessary and a bit spewy to me but that's not to say i'm right.

Nah not spewy, this is taking it to the wire. He wouldn’t get away with that flop check in a mid stakes game. If I was playing in a mid stakes game I’d make a check like that with exactly AA or Qx to encourage the 3 street bluff. I wouldn’t do it against someone who knows me though, and once I landed it I’d write a note.

JJ is clearly in his range here and we want to make it fold. Nothing that beats us calls so why not??

That's all well and good but this isn't a mid stakes game.

I didn’t say it was. I said that he wouldn’t get away with it in a mid stakes game. This is because his opponents won’t be soft enough to let him off with a check on the turn.

If you ever leave it so that your entire range is destined to fold by showdown a good villain is going to make you fold by showdown whenever he wants to. This is why keeping the nuts in your range is so important in the higher stakes games.

Checking the turn doesn't mean were always folding to a river bet.I just don't think we need to bloat the pot on the turn and can use some pot control.Villain can make some river bluffs and we can pick them off. Or we can check back the river when villain checks and take our showdown value.

What showdown value?

“From AK that decided to check call the turn”

We bet the river to get thin value off what?

“A6”

Dude, AK ain’t bluffing. I doubt he’d just check call the flop with it anyway. It might improve on the river, but it ain’t bluffing.

A6 ain’t giving us another street of value. You could bet as small as you want on the river but unless A6 improves it ain’t calling.

These are not reasons to check the turn and let JJ take the pot.

You say we don’t want to bloat the pot on the turn, but why not? We’re taking it down on the river.

I wouldn't bet the river i would take my showdown value if villain checks.

Well that’s good atleast! You won’t give JJ and TT an extra street of value. You just gotta hope that AK doesn’t improve and then there is a small chance you could win this pot!
