I don't feel super great about this hand. I got dealt JJ UTG. Well, you can see the action below.

PokerStars - $0.02 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 107 BB
SB: 219.5 BB
BB: 209.5 BB
Hero (UTG): 167 BB
MP: 107 BB
CO: 102.5 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J♥ J♦

Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, BTN raises to 10.5 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 7.5 BB

Flop: (22.5 BB, 2 players) 7♠ 6♠ 4♥
Hero checks, BTN bets 13.5 BB, Hero raises to 46 BB, BTN raises to 96.5 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 50.5 BB

Turn: (215.5 BB, 2 players) 9♦

River: (215.5 BB, 2 players) 7♣

Spoiler

Hero wins 208 BB
Villain had T♥:T♣:

What I don't feel great about is that based on the villain's PF action he might easily have an overpair. Flop might suggest he has AK/AQ of spades. A set is also a possibility. Given the action I get on the flop, only hands I'm not dead against are a flush draw (with likely 2 overcards, so it's a flip), and an overpair lower than my JJ (TT, 99, 88 [which has 4 additional outs in 5s]). If villain has QQ, KK, AA, he's willing to put his money into the pot as he did here.

However, I don't see how I would've played the hand differently. After his 1/2 bet on the flop I raised, effectively making me committed to the all-in in case he has QQ+. On the other hand, had I not raised here I would've let AQ+ and flush draws to draw.

Really an uncomfortable hand to think about in retrospect. Is this just one of those situations where money goes in the middle, or is there a way to play this in a different manner?

The only alternative I can see is re-raising all-in OTF -- the problem with that is that you fold out many worse hands that could call your raise -- which is the case here.

Yeah, it isn't always comfortable, sometimes you get really nervous even while playing correctly.

What's worse, is that often hands where you think you're crushing it, you get to showdown and find the opponent runner-runner got there with his garbage.

Thanks Vorpal,

I don't mind losing a pot if I know what I did was correct. The most frustrating thing is to be in the dark wrt. knowing what the correct course of play is and that I think is the #1 reason I sometimes tilt (I do recognize that though, and will take a break immediately). I don't get that nervous about the end result of an individual all-in or a call if I know I have a good justification for having done what I did.

The problem or uncertainty about my decision making here is that there are multiple coolers that fit what my opponent did here, and not that many worse hands other than bluffs that would have me ahead. But given how the hand played, I don't think there was a point where I should've (or anyone at 2NL would've) folded, so it's all good I think.

Any info on villain would be nice. This could be a interesting spot for a 4bet pre-flop as well, but I would only doing this against a decent player and than you need to go for it if villain shoves.

Flop you can play the hand on different ways. Problem with raising that you are committed if villain shoves and villain shouldn't have to many weaker hands in his/her stack off range. 66+ and flush draws is already a optimistic range with in mind your line looks really strong. If I would raise I would make a shove for around 80bb more.

I don't think a call isn't to bad ether. It's not to likely villain has to many straight or flush draws in his/her 3bet range. If that would be the case you deal with a really aggressive villain. If you call you keep villains range as wide as possible and on a blank turn card you can still shove without over betting.

Cheers,

so i didnt look at spoiler yet, and i didnt read other comments: first i wanted to post something..

Preflop i have no issue . That being said villain has all the AK's, AA's,KK's and QQ's in range at that point with their 3 bet and your call.

Flop: I like the check OOP- I think i am just calling and not x/r... I think you are betting for protection? as you worried about FD?As for him having a set.. On the flop your range holds more of the sets on the flop.. I would be more concerned of all overpairs AA-QQ.. IF the runout is all small cards with your hand i am most likely losing anyway as i am probably calling him all the way down- and paying him off with AA-QQ unless on Turn he rips it all in, then at that point he as either AK or TOP BIG Pairs.. and i need to make a my mind up..

Okay time to read everyones stuff and look at spoiler....

So the good ole 1010..

so as SDK not having any stats on villain is a little hard, but even after reading comments and looking at spoiler I think i was too bad.... As for a 4 bet pre- not a fan with JJ, you are already showing strong being in UTG, then if BTN raises i am most likely putting a person i have no information about, on a hand.. I would prefer to 4 bet with AQoff or even A3-A5suited, with the A and Q blockers. if villain has KK-QQ you at least have 3 outs if they just call your 4 bet..

GL! Keep Grinding.

I like a call on the flop because villain can have sets and overpairs.
