Did I play this completely wrong?
PokerStars - $0.10 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $10.75
SB: $12.28
BB: $11.06
UTG: $2.17
Hero (MP): $19.80
CO: $10.00

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has K♣:A♥:

fold, Hero raises to $0.29, fold, BTN calls $0.29, fold, fold

Flop: ($0.73, 2 players) 8♣:A♠:A♣:
Hero checks, BTN checks << hoping BTN had Ax

Turn: ($0.73, 2 players) 5♠:
Hero bets $0.36, BTN calls $0.36

River: ($1.45, 2 players) 7♦:
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.84, Hero calls $0.84 Checked here to induce bluff

I almost raised the river, but then thought -- what worse would fold?
So I just called...
Seems like such a πŸ” move...

I would most likely Cbet. You want to protect your hand against the flush draw and off course it's not likely villain has a ace in his/her hand. I would most likely go for 3 streets, but it's a little bit villain depended.

I don't mind the check with Top set, but once villain doesn't bet it becomes a losing situation. Your hand is worth 3 street of value. If you knew from reads that villain is Aggro and that 75% of time he is betting then I would check, ( not sure if you had this information) but to check against a random and have no information you are losing value..so I would play fast and bet all streets.

As for not raising river, I don't understand the question, What worse would call? Anything worse CAN call, people do some crazy stuff maybe he think you are BSing him with a busted flush or str8, maybe he has AQ and you just missed a pay off of AJ. Now if you were to get 3 bet after your raise, maybe a sticky situation, but that doesn't happen much and if it does villains aren't bluffing they have the nuts, being a boat. No one NL10 plays a balance game, so you don't have worry as well..

Now let me eat my words and tell me he str8 or a Boat...

KEEP GRINDING

It's tough to have top set without having a pair in the hand.
Hero has trips in this hand :f_wink:

This is one of those cases where my gut told me to go slow
Yeah, I know that isn't how we're supposed to make decisions

When the turn is a brick, I bet since I figured opponent had squat, so I bet small to end it right there and move on to another hand.

When he calls, I figure he has decent pocket pair and is hoping that a) I don't have an A and b) I'm just taking a stab

With pot odds on the river I call because he only needs to be bluffing air 1/4 times (roughly) for me to profit long term.

This wasn't one of those times -- his "decent pocket pair" turned out to be 88

Nice hand sir

two trappers meet each other, the one with the better nuts misses out on the opportunity of getting a lot of money from the other

i'd probably get stacked here so gj :)

I think BTN was just as πŸ” as I was -- Ax is solidly in my range, and A7, A5 and even A8 are out against him.
