6max pocket pair against two overcards would you call the river?

I would 3bet him pre and River is close, i could go either way depending on my reads, overbet is quite high price to pay with 99 on KQx

True, but MP is playing 50/50 over 4 hands. It's time to see what he's made of.
So 3Betting pre is a start — but then you must call.
After checking both flop and turn, the overbet looks really polarized — you're dead or he has air.

I would definitely 3bet pre as well. This way you can rep al the monsters, good hands postflop, but also weaker stuff, because you might be full of it this first time after he just joined the table (in his eyes). You can basically rep everything.

Also, blinds may 3bet a lot if we call. (again not much hands, but ..)

and there are more other reasons to 3bet like rake, less postflop guesswork

I wouldn't say "rarely" but yeah, it is used less. Not quite as many online players these days.

3betting seems indeed better. As played I would most likely check behind the flop with the flush blockers and your hand has decent showdown value on Q high board. You don't want to face a check/raise and hard to get value I think. Only a another over card could be a problem on the turn.
