While I didn't enjoy it for the most part, I do think that the constant body control exercises, especially the falling techniques (known as Ukemi, I believe), ended up helping me later in life. Not only in other sports like rugby where safe falling can prevent a lot of injuries, but also in some situations like roughly four years ago, when I fell off a ladder at work

In all my life I had several learning experiences that I hated, but I've never had cause to regret knowing something.

On the subject of falling: I played soccer at age 10 to 12, and somewhere in there I learned to tuck in my head as I fell, landing on my shoulder, rolling, and ending up on my feet. I don't know if that qualifies as Ukemi. In my early thirties, I was leaving the door of our house, stepped on a toy, and did exactly that. Mrs Vorpal was stunned.

Younger son (7) won judo wrestling competition this morning. I love how he used strategy and mindfulness. "*Looking over shoulder*: "Oh, the outer border is behind me, I stop now and push the opponent that is pushing me."" Congratz to him.

Congratulations to your son! Terrific confidence boost!

SAS is vs OKC in few hours in NBA (US basketball league). Is decisive game 7 as it is tied 3-3. OKC was better but last game they got crushed by almost -30 points. What is your guess of the result? I think SAS again as they really crushed the last game, but I would say about 65% to 70% chance that they win.

Yes i suddenly remembered all my team volleyball victories in Grade 6, we were really crushing vs other villages. Super happy to see him happy, but actual solo champion i didnt achieve at his age in sports.

I recently fell with my two-wheel-cart with 6 laptops after entering a private school, my wrist got a bit hurt but i am super used to that in team volleyball :D so i laughed and continued more carefully.

It's good to encourage kids to take up sports and other extracurricular activities, but I believe their heart must be in it, so the speak. If it's just something for them to get over with because they have to, they won't get much benefit from it.

Since your son is clearly doing well, however, it seems like he's willing to learn, which is a sign that he does care for the sport.

YES! I find it funny how they have that victory in mind and head to mother, mother says: "go to training!", and they are like: "noooo, why?"

I guess some lessons we learn after age 22....

Let's say you go to a school to get certain knowledge. But instead of attending the classes, you go to the headmaster and start shaking him physically. Which knowledge would you retrieve?

I know that the university people (my father, grandfather, mother) really respect these students and always reply the best they can.

I think it does qualify as Ukemi.

The technique demonstrated in the video above seems to be a simplified version. What I learned back then was to put only one hand on the ground and roll over your other shoulder, using the arm to get some more momentum, which sounds more like what you described. And yes, with enough momentum, you should be able to land on your feet afterwards if you do it correctly.

I'm glad you learned something like that in soccer back then, whether it was formally taught or otherwise. Nowadays, I expect people would be more likely taught to fall in an overly dramatic fashion and then act seriously hurt for a few minutes. :f_ugly:

I may be biased (though I played soccer for many years too, both as a kid and an adult, and consider it a fine sport), but as a common joke in rugby circles goes: Soccer is about pretending that everything hurts even though you are fine for 90 minutes. Rugby is about pretending you're fine even though everything hurts for 80 minutes.

These are "divers" in soccer, they hunt for penalties and free kicks. They hope to make the referee believe that they were stopped physically.

@Mixed Drinks:

Was so drunk from "cognac + water" then I somehow wandered into fast food chain and added Peach Ice Tea as drink with the intention of mixing it with vodka later. But then at liquir store i didnt want vodka but i actually checked that shelf for the first time. Will try to train tomorrow morning, so not Hyper Drunk today! Lol

Woah, easy there. :f_eek:

If your liquor store has triple sec, it's a pretty versatile drink for several cocktails. Some classics that include it in addition to cognac are the Sidecar (cognac, triple sec, lemon juice) and the Between the sheets (same ingredients plus white rum). None of them have been posted on the forum before, I should fix that soon.

Both of these drinks would require a shaker, of course, and therefore also some ice. Ideally a suitable cocktail glass too, but anything that holds about 150-180ml should do.

Nice training in morning, and +0,16€ in 17 minutes winning two DoNs. Current plan is still to keep the monthly buy-ins in June <= 0,40€; but this could get bigger as the situation seems to get better.

Looking for quality online poker themed merch to decorate our home. Such as mugs, cups, paintings, maybe even new monitor for computer.

And I thought I was weird when I considered framing a deck of Japanese hanafuda cards. :f_biggrin: Maybe I will still do it some time. They do look pretty, and could make for a nice conversation piece.

I believe Pokerstars still has a rewards store, though? You should at least be able to get some mugs and cups there, I still have a couple myself. Possibly other decorations too.

Well YES and GG store as well, but they mostly have for travellers not for home (bags, clothes, hats). Why not a good " "C-bet" floor lamp from .NET Frameworks Ltd" but i havent found those yet. Will continue regular training with empty home :/ June already 4/4 buyins used though at 0.10€ buyin level.
