While I have a strong dislike towards Disney as a company, much of their older work really was amazing. Particularly the old stuff from when Walt was still alive, and they also had a very good streak in the 90's. Bambi (1942) and The Lion King (1994) are still among my all-time favorites, though I haven't watched either of them in a long time - in fact, I rarely seem to have time for any feature films at all these days.

I also wish people would bring back traditional animation, which largely seems to be a dead medium by now. I was a big fan of computer generated animation in the mid-2000's, but by now, I think the novelty has worn off. There are still some very good CGI movies, but I don't think it should be the only kind of animation that makes it to theaters.

Yes I think nowadays I think when people are dead serious combating on social media with 500KB "clips" for "different entertainment", it draws near these giants who can do anything they wish with screens. This is one reason why that company has re-appeared.

I also believe everyone should have a chance in the video contest, but after Samsung launched the "fridge that talks to guests"-phone and Microsoft points out that your mobile game will bring about -$1000; I have lost faith in sudden fast changes.

Ok time to wrap up May and take 3+ days rest at the end of the month as is normal for my online poker. It was fun to play 10c and 20c SnGs in January but somewhere the fun was lost and I became a full 10c SnG grinder for 5 months this year. Amazing sports adventure, but yes, also some rest is needed now. Lovely to see my family back on their feet after continuous support; today I even slept in kitchen after waking up son 1 as they went to school, kindergarten... Then I slept again two hours until 11am in bed.

Business-wise I fell back to the competition, also having a bit eye trouble, you know, eyes are the weak spot of a dragon, so it isn't very pleasant to see competition back on their feet while having eye trouble at the same time. But now my eyes and mood are a little bit recovering.

May:

Video games business: +258,98€
Online poker: +3,91€
total: +262,89€

Now the school break will start in few days so also maybe switching the training/learning schedule a bit, but also would be nice to continue training in countryside, ~running 3x/week on countryside roads, why not.

I love my MS Office 2010 software from archive.org. I only need the Excel and it is a perfect solution for my business. Last time I used MS Office was in 2009 I think so the 2010 one looked a bit new in 2026, but works wonders for data.

People love consistency. They might yell for a big change, but it is like this story about a meditator’s home. The meditator is peaceful, and observes the world from his home. So he has these visitors. The visitors feel extreme emotions and yell for a big change. But actually inside they want this stability that the meditator offers with his home. The meditator knows this and doesn’t make a rapid big change, but instead keeps offering this consistent peaceful support in the same way.

This is also one of the reasons why I dropped the stakes 20x in 2026; from NL2 cashgame to 0.10€ tournaments. If I played NL2, noone would know, what would happen. The area was in too much crisis for that. So I don't bloat that crisis but try to offer stability, without going ~all-in with poker career etc. They have calmed down now. We will take two small cats next week.

I like LibreOffice a lot too, that's what I use. In general, I tend to prefer open source software whenever possible.

Tournament buy-ins can't be directly compared to cash stacks, I think (e.g. €2 tournaments are not directly comparable to NL2 cash etc), so I wouldn't necessarily call it a 20x drop in stakes. But they are different when it comes to the mental game approach overall. Personally, I believe I can handle tournaments a lot better than cash, while for some other people - Primrose is one of them - it's the opposite.

I assume there will be pictures of the cats? :f_love:

Yes there will be funny devlogs on YouTube with real kittens interrupting _cool:

At the moment I try to focus on my business, so I love software by businesses that is designed for businesses. That said, that penguin game on G desktop at Linux Ubuntu was pretty nice, also the Battle for Wesnoth game, these devs really have pushed it to open source limits and beyond.

As funny as it may sound, I try to reduce the work pressure by entertainment, such as this chatroom, TV channels and so on.

I haven't found a better way to measure these in terms of BRM but under the same codename: "buy-ins". This simplifies my system. Of course there are drastic differences what one should do in a DoN SnG vs a 100+bb cashgame strategy-wise...

I love how gamblers look at what they have done to their roll after 10 years have passed and say: "Devastating."

Quite an interesting series at 0.10€ buy-in level:

Average over +30 buy-ins/month. I haven't had that ever but I haven't also played this low ever for so long. Feels like a slight break in June (less hours) but I might also rest well and figure out a good solution to this gaming question that I have.

I remember at high school I booted into school computer class computer with Xubuntu DVD, took some password files from Windows XP password files folder and used a brute force application to decode them. I then used my new admin privileges to put server program to my seat computer and client program to all other 17 computers with a USB stick. I had written these programs myself using C++. This simply gave direct access to the server program user to WinXP command line commands, the user had to specify the computer he wishes to control, such as "K9 mspaint", which opened MS Paint in computer 9 in the computer class. Boy was this system fast. I had developed it for many weeks both at home and in school.

I love how "Poker Therapy" (book) puts it: if the root is wrong, we cannot correct the branches. Such as "what a moron!" cannot lead to correcting the "moron's" behavior, because the real root is "I lost".

As a programmer, you may be familiar with GIGO (garbage in, garbage out), which is a similar concept.

Yes I will never forget how we as 10-men unit searched for a programming error and found lietunant in 500 meters distance with scissors who had cut too walker-disturbing wire.

In a pretty difficult situation gaming-wise. Optimal strategy says: play 6 x 0.10€ SnGs/month; that isn't very fun but is the only strategy I currently have for the situation. Problems: lack of time, breakthrough not possible. Good sides: patience very good idea, aim for positive months, focus on long-term patience. Goal: prepare for gamedev learning...

In poker there are only two external resources: Time and Money. Everything else is internal: knowledge, skill and experience. Unless you have sufficient time and money, poker is not for you.

Patience isn't just a good idea. It is a critically essential element, but it requires time.

Yes I absolutely love being a poker player! What drives me nuts sometimes is the strategy aspect. Also NLHE is new game for me, so I think very well played overall the last 1,5 years of NLHE; and many opportunities have opened, I just need the patience to build a bigger roll.

Younger son (7) won judo wrestling competition this morning. I love how he used strategy and mindfulness. "*Looking over shoulder*: "Oh, the outer border is behind me, I stop now and push the opponent that is pushing me."" Congratz to him.

Awesome, congrats! :f_drink:

I was actually kind of forced to take judo as a child. :f_biggrin: I never cared for that sport, but my grade school teacher used to do it and thought that it could benefit me, so he recommended it to my parents and they sent me there. While I didn't enjoy it for the most part, I do think that the constant body control exercises, especially the falling techniques (known as Ukemi, I believe), ended up helping me later in life. Not only in other sports like rugby where safe falling can prevent a lot of injuries, but also in some situations like roughly four years ago, when I fell off a ladder at work.

Regardless, I always respect a good sporting achievement. :f_thumbsup:

Lol same here mom puts them to judo, soccer, chess; they wouldn't go there if mom didn't push that agenda 😹

It's good to encourage kids to take up sports and other extracurricular activities, but I believe their heart must be in it, so the speak. If it's just something for them to get over with because they have to, they won't get much benefit from it.

Since your son is clearly doing well, however, it seems like he's willing to learn, which is a sign that he does care for the sport.
