This week on the coaching ... 3-max $22 turbo PKO MTT! It's a new regular Stars tourney and we're going to look at a deep run in it :)

This is a member review I'm excited about and have promised for this week (and possibly next week also depending on how much we get through). But after this tourney we're going to be doing a lot more SNG content in future weeks. I've got some plans I'm excited about for this, and if you guys have any SNG formats you want to see covered in the near future, please let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate :)

This MTT (Triple Threat) is awesome (one of the favourites of the Russian community Spin & Go streamer MikeShipa), I'll definitely be playing it if I ever move to the Western Hemisphere and it's still on offer, but for Europe, it's a bit too late in the evening (16:45 ET / 22:45 CET) :f_cry:

Will you donate your own HH of this SnG-MTT format if needed? :f_wink:

Another option is to try to get HHs from the $30 on-demand PKOs from abarone68, whom I've witnessed playing these SnGs last night and also at the time of writing, which makes sense, as these are the highest stake MTSnGs running regularly and he's switched from Spins to MTTs recently, according to his new 2+2 blog https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/174/poker-goals-amp-challenges/2018-tasty-food-trip-reports-tournaments-1700025/ . Apparently, there's still enough value in these $30 OD PKOs despite them attracting many world-class SnG regs; they may not be spectacular in terms of profit, but they have lower variance than MTTs, so it looks like they're good enough to mix into the MTT grind.

If I'm not mistaken, there's little difference between the ICMs of ODs and 90-mans once 6 players are left, so the analysis of ODs is useful for 90-mans and vice versa, the biggest difference is the number of players on the bubble.

To clarify, I mean specifically PKOs (not $1.50 non-turbo 90-mans with fixed KOs). The fact that the winner gets a relatively large bounty (their own plus the runner-up's) implies that the effective payout structure of OD PKOs (accounting for the winner's own bounty added to the 1st place prize) is more 1st-place-heavy than the one of non-KO 45-mans (the latter are notorious for having a uniquely tough bubble).

That said, I think it will be easy to find a donor of 90-man HHs anyway. I don't think I'll qualify for this role - I think it's better for me to focus on 6-max hyper MTTs/SnGs* at least for the next couple of weeks, and only then reconsider starting a full-ring non-hyper career if things go wrong at hypers.

* Probably with a focus on super-KOs - the terrible state of non-KO 6-mans is illustrated by the fact that ghaleon is sitting there all the way down to $7s :f_eek:

Cannot donnate good HHs from those yet, Tony :f_cry: just started to play them on Stars and I´m in the midst of a downer, so all you would see is me folding junk hands and running as shortstack with AQ into AK or some other better hand. But I guess in one I maybe cashed? Will see but don´t have enough good ones yet.

Moved to Stars with half of my BR just a few weeks ago.....

Returning to the talk about the features of Holdemresources Calculator:

HRC has just (on Friday) released an update that supports PKOs!!

To quote the release notes:

Spoiler

Added progressive bounty support for ICM/FGS calculations (MTT coming soon).

PokerStars progressive bounties are filled automatically from hand histories.

Locked bounty model to "proportional" based on additional research, "flat" and "moderate" models will be discontinued. Detailed information about this decision will be posted next week.

A snapshot of the previous beta with "flat" and "moderate" models still active is available for reference here.

Added support for SimplePostFlop range format for pasting ranges from clipboard.

New 2+2 support thread is available here.

So will we discuss K.Os?

I don't mind discussing K.o or PKO would be fine. Don't know who else is playing Sng_MTT? Actually I'm mainly MTT player now. Who plays STT? Don't know. So makes sense to go more for MTT- SNG?

NB: make sure to update the beta to the latest version - a couple of bugs (in the Quick Analyze and FGS setup) were fixed on Saturday, and the beta now works OK.

The description of one of Collin's latest live play videos starts with, 'If you thought STTs are dead, think again!'

Well, Spins and especially Spin & Go Max have surely lowered recs' interest in fixed prize pool STTs.

I still think that 18-man turbos will be 'alive' for longer than 9-mans - as you remember, Collin has recently done an 18-man coaching :f_love: - and that's because 18-mans seem to strike the correct balance between the duration and the gamble: they're still short enough for many recs to withstand, but at the same time, the standard deviation of the winnings in terms of BIs is twice higher than in HUSnGs and 1.4 times higher than in STTs, and, surprisingly to some, even higher than in Spin & Go Max (with the top jackpot level excluded).

The problem with the latter is of course that it's raked brutally. So those who're beating, say, $7 HU or 6-man hypers (with table selection) will be likely better off continuing to play their bread-and-butter games than switching to $3/$7 Spin Max with its 9%/8% rake and merely 14 hands played per game on average. The real issues start at the $15 level, where a HU hyper 'division' has been officially launched this month.

Just today I was thinking about trying out those 18- and 27-man/women Sit and Goes. Wanted to play 90ties and 180ties, you cannot mass-grind them, there are not enough of them running at the same time. So I use to play 45, 90, 180. The latter take about 3,5 to 4 hours so those 18 and 27 could be very nice if you wanna play a "little MTT" and don´t have much time, we can discuss those too of course.

We can choose now 18, 27, 45, 90, 180. Actually, we could do ALL in the next couple of coachings?

You know what?

Let´s do all of them!

As for 45+ mans, I'll have a closer look at the lobby once again, but it seems to me that the most expensive turbo games that run consistently are $30 PKO on-demands and $15 non-KO ODs, and even they go off merely several times an hour, so nowadays, it's hardly possible to have a strictly MTTSNG career without mixing MTTs in. I'm yet to learn more about bfizz11's challenge - he made $10K a month by playing SNGs at stakes of $15 and below due to their tremendous softness - but I guess that he has really great mass multitabling skills.

I think I can play 18-mans, but I don't want to practise bigger field MTSNGs now, as they'd give me too little top-3 ICM experience. 18-mans allow to practise both the cEV mode and the ICM mode in short time. It's sad that 18-mans are all either non-hyper or KO - I'd surely appreciate non-KO hypers.

Here's the 2+2 thread about it. I learned about it from the latest abarone68 coaching, of course.

It's a peak hour now, and yet, there's not a single 27-man running at any BI level, partly because they're all regular speed. In contrast, there are twelve $15 18-man turbos running (but merely three $30 ones).

As for mass multitabling, I don't think it's worthwhile in the current environment where there's no incentive to rake more. Having only 9 tables up will allow you to spend about as much time thinking over hands as an average player does. And there are enough variables (HUD stats, timing tells) to consider in poker that call for deep thought. Increasing the table count from 9 to 12 hikes the rake paid per hour by 33% but the number of hands played per hour by 15-25% only (I'm not sure how much, but definitely less because you then play slower than an average entrant, and tables requiring action tend to queue up in large numbers, making you sometimes settle for poorly weighed decisions to avoid timing out), decreases the number of hands played per blind level at your tables and thus your ROI because the edge in bb/100 drops as the blinds grow.

This doesn't apply to bfizz11 who has so much experience that he takes high quality decisions faster than an average player, but for someone with sluggish cognitive tempo like me, an increase of the table count can be really harmful.
