KK raise/call preflop

Preflop: Hero is BU with K:d, K:c.
3 folds, Hero raises, SB folds, BB 3-Bets, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.5 SB) 3:d, J:c, 2:c (2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.25 BB) 4:d (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls.

River: (8.25 BB) 9:c (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.

Final Pot: 10.25 BB.

Opponent is a solid TAG. Is it profitable to sometimes just call the 3bet instead of capping? This way I mix it up and make it harder for him to read my hand. I also know he would very often 2-barrel with all of his 3bet range (as all TAGs do).

Not capping is a viable option. But I think it's much more important if you raised from earlier positions. As BU your capping range is still wide enough to still cap KK without huge disadvantages. If you cap UTG it looks way stronger and polarises your range towards absolute premium hands.

It also depends on your enemy. If he plays very weak against caps, you might gain more with not capping KK but weaker holdings instead. If he doesn't care or is very SD-bound, a cap preflop will often be the better option.

true! i agree! but basically i've mixed it up but mostly i cap on the button due to the fact that your range is still supposed to be wide.
